Was on assignment for the paper today. HBO was taping an episode of Entourage ( by the way I'm a HUGE fan of the show) at the Del Mar Thourobred Club and I was with one of our 17 year veterans. We get on set and I see the cast prepping for a shoot and snapped a few pics. I drew the attention of the set manager and he asked that we not shoot while they were rehearsing or taping. Okay by me, I'll wait. Not two minutes go by and the makeup people were making some adjustments to "Vincent's" hair and the vet decided to snap a few shots. He also managed to draw the attention of the set manager but, he was a bit pissed this time. Along, with Barney Fife the security guard they escorted us off set but not before making a BIG scene in front of everybody including the cast and about 75 extras. Man what a low point. I was embarassed by some 5 foot 2 power tripping half wit. We wound up having to go up to the media level and shoot from the rooftop like some dirt bag poparazzi. I swore I would never stoop to shooting stars from the bushes or rooftops. This is truly a new low for me. I'd be better off cloning smoke stacks in Lebenon.

Viewed from another persons's perspective, it would seem that you folks were asked not to disturb the process, which seemingly you did manage to do... hence drawing the ire of the set manager.

They asked you to leave... and I see you reason why you would now attack them and engage in character assassination.

Just a thought.

They asked us not to shoot while they were taping or rehearsing , We shot while they were doing makeup BIG difference that shooting and rehearsal thing is a night and day.

pony up a measley $25 and have a dpc portfolio ;-)

as an aside, i'm surprised the vet let himself get into that situation. typically, when i have to go on a location where someone could be thrown out, i try to go early and hunt down the person who could throw me out, find out what i can and can't do, then try to stay within those boundaries.

Ok... in your eyes there is a big difference, but it would seem that in the eyes of the offended party there wasn't. Having said this, it could be argued that this differnce of opinion alone shouuld not entitle you to demean them.

From this man's perspective, your reaction speaks volumes.

I don't think it's fair to judge the OP here. If you read what he wrote, it was the vet with him that got them into trouble and removed from the set. And in theatrical situations, there is a huge difference between shooting and rehersal. It sounds to me like the guy in charge was pissy and took it out by kicking the nearest dog.

It's not fair to judge the set manager either.

Unless he comes here and posts his side of the story!

this issue here isn't really what happened--that's done. what's important is to recognize situations where it can happen, and work to prevent it from happening.

You don't have to put the camera up to your eye to take photos.

I find that in situations where "the rules change" and someone gets all up in a wad that person is feeling chastised or like they did something wrong. It's possiblethe set manager told you shooting was ok and then someone told THEM it wasn't ok or they didn't like it. Well, now the manager feels a bit like an ass because they are now responsible. So they get all huffy as a show and kick you out.

I see it in doctor world all the time.
