One thing I don't understand ...
The current delays at airports are to prevent any kind of backup or secondary plan kicking in and taking out airplanes full of people.
So, to stop them doing that, we've created huge holding areas, full of airplane loads of people, which anybody can walk into the middle of.
It's a good job these highly organised terrorist groups aren't very organised.

News-based, as in the practicalities of what's happening, details of what happened, and perhaps projections into what might happen in the near future related to today's revelations.
Political rant, as in some right-wing, fascistic and delusional ignoramuses trying to justify something that any reasonable person would know to be wrong.
I think the first type belongs in this thread, and the second in rant :) |

Since as far as I have heard, the British have not indicated any links with any political group at this time, there should be no political rants here. So assumptions as to the terrorists should be avoided in this thread. When there is blame apportioned THEN we can send it to rant!!!

Actually, latest reports (BBC) indicate that intelligence and security activities from Pakistan tipped off the Brits and the Americans to this latest "threat factor" and arrests have been made based on that. Arrested "suspects" include a number of Muslims.
Therefore, that's enough evidence for W to openly declare on the record that this is yet another showing of how "people who love freedom" are being threatened by "Muslim fascists." |

The way we travel is about to drastically change again.
1) Carrying any sort of electronics on planes is probably going to be outlawed eventually, if not at some point this year. No more iPods, cell phones, laptops, cameras, etc.. I already get antsy when I have that stuff on long flight to keep my attention. We are going to have to end up sitting on the plane like that guy "Puddy" from Seinfeld (Elaine's boyfriend) or a class of first graders. Don't get up, don't say anything, don't carry on anything, etc. Anyone ready to start checking their photography equipment to the belly of the planes?
2) Some are speculating the dawn of 3 - 5 hour check in time for flights...ouch!
3) More crowded flights, more expensive tickets, more salty passengers, and more economic hardships for the airline industry.
I'm all for any added steps that make it safe to fly, but I've got to admit that I'm going to think twice about flying places if it becomes such a pain in the ass to fly.
This is just a really sad that we can't get along as people. |

Is it confirmed that the arrests are of British nationals?

If the bullied goes and bullies others, that is not defending himself. And yes, I agree we should not kill a 100 innoncents in revenge.
Problem is defining what is an innoncent.

Yes, because they have the world's number one commodity - oil. And everyone wants to buy it. That region of the world has more economic opportunity than most any. In truth, it's greed and extremism that has kept it in such a dire state.
Said region has been bullying since before there was a USA.
And in determining who is the bully. I look at who keeps starting the fights. I also look at who if you removed would cause the fights to cease.

That's right, I forgot. Since these people don't fly flags we can never do or say anything against them politically because they're not a state or a political party.
Well, in my world, "islamifascists" are a geo-political entity. So the case in point was a plot by them was foiled. A few are still at large. 24 individuals have been arrested.
Please note, I am not muslim bashing. I am only bashing islamifascists. If you're a muslim but not an extemist fascist. Then you are not included. May you live your life in peace.
That said we are at war with Islamifascists...or rather they are at war with the rest of the world.

how bout this for a simple question to show our true colors and hopeful unity:
Is there actually anyone out there that would say the arrest of 20+ potential terrorists is ever a bad thing? To save lives in the process?
I mean seriously people. There is something good that came out of this. And although many many things may change in the future, we can only speak of this event. And it looks like a murderous plot is spoilt due to the hard work of many people.

Hmmmph. I just got home from work to see this thread. I know it's probably trivial of me to bring this up now, but ...
I'm flying to London for the DPC GTG next week! If I can't carry on my camera and laptop, I just don't know what I'll do :-( |

Pretty soon flying is going to involve being strapped naked to your seat with a catheter placed so you don't have to get up. |

Here we go again!
As I said I was referring to the point about revenge not playground bullies and the innocents killed by either side if we took the view that we should kill 100 for each one of our innocents killed. Both sides think they are right and therefore will justify their acts if this was the case. (Before you misread this I will state plainly that I do think these terrorists are wrong and their acts are evil but repeat that reprisals along the lines someone suggested would make us just as bad.)
As you again are inferring that I am a "right-wing, fascistic and delusional ignoramuses trying to justify something that any reasonable person would know to be wrong." I would ask that you refain from personal attacks.
I was responding to the point about political/news comments and saying that once political blame was apportioned then this thread should move to rant!
Yes the fanatics are the people to blame but since they are as easy to identify as christian fanatics then we have a problem! And to say there are "A few are still at large" is a gross understatement.

It is the world's victory. We are all in this together and we all have to fight this. Whether it is from home grown terrorists or imported in. Bush has his problems but he certainly has not shied away from his responsibilities with fighting the problem. And you can put a lot of kudos to the US for getting the Pakistani goverment in line to help fight this even though they have some extreme problems with their own home grown terrorists.
But I agree that the Brits and Pakistani's get their kudos. |

I know...but I see a little differently than you. I don't view both parties as quite the same.
Party 1 (includes USA, Europe, Israel, Western World) endeavors to minimilize civilian casualties. Drops leaflets warning before hand. Endeavors focus to be on hostiles.
Party 2 (islamifascists) deliberately attack civilian populations and hide in and amongst civilians in order to ensure any attacks on them put civilians at risk.
THOSE ARE TWO VERY DIFFERENT IDEOLOGIES AND PEOPLE

Hey Riponlady. WHAT IN THE WORLD ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT???
The above quote was a quote of Ergo's that I was pointing to as an example of politicism & insult (which was being ignored). It had nothing to bloody do with you.
Originally posted by "riponlady": I was responding to the point about political/news comments and saying that once political blame was apportioned then this thread should move to rant! |
Yes, I forgot we must tie anything negative about segments of islam to christians...the real danger. Let me outline again for you numerous differences.
a) the identity of any one operating incognito is hard to determine
b) there is a far greater number of active islamic terrorists than there are christian terrorists.
c) the christian community as a whole pretty much condemns said extremists and declares their actions as wrong. And usually without condition. Even in the case of the abortion clinic killings most christians condemn the actions completely. They may feel abortion is wrong but they do not believe it is justification for murder.
So they are very very different.
If there was a great number of rascist NAZI freaks like Timothy McVeigh in Maine and they were launching attacks throughout the world. And Canada decided after suffering several attacks they needed to eliminate said threat. Then we'd be talking more similar ballgames. In which case, I would completely condemn the christian-fascist terrorists.
As for the "islamifascists"...most of the Muslim countries of the world are in war with them as well. Hence, i don't see this as an all Islam issue and really dislike assinuations that people on the left make towards us for our statements.

Manchester, UK.
There's a huge waiting area before you even reach any ticket desks. That appeared to be where the crowds of people were being given clear bags and being told to repack.
