Could anyone suggest what I could do to improve this image.
My PS skills are minimal so, any tips would be much appreciated.

This looks like a good candidate for HDR or some masking work to keep the foreground (it looks good IMO) and work on the sky/cloud detail. There have been a couple of threads on this recently. Also, Bear_Music has a landscape learning thread going somewhere that could give you some pointers on the fix for this.
Nonetheless...there should be some people in here soon with exacting suggestions rather than my high level view. ;^) It's a nice shot to work with. |

Burid deep in the Landscape Learning thread is a discussion of using a graduated mask for an adjustment layer (e.g. Curved) to affect the FG and Sky more or less separately.
You "could" also drop in an attractive sky from a different shot : )

I couldn't get anything out of the right hand side of the sky, so I borrowed one of my sunsets and blended that in. The line between water and sky is a bit rough, but you get the general idea......

I'll have a go at it later, but I'm at the midsummer hour right now where the skylight is shining the sun directly on my keyboard and it's way too contrasty lighting in here for me to do any editing until later :-)

Just a quick messin, the sky could do with beetles idea or bear's gradient treatment.

Sorry, I was just checking in as I passed my computer.
Very lax of me not to acknowledge everyone's excellent feedback. My bad.
Thanks for all the suggestions. I think I prefer to adjust the image, rather than import elements of other images.
Thanks again for the help. When I have the time, I'll post the image after I've taken another run at it. |

WOW Beetle! That's some great blending and post-processing. The sunset placed in the corner opposite the boiler really makes this composite. Great job! |
