A work mate of mine is going to stick is FULL set of Cokin A series filters up on eBay. Before that he has lent me the lot to try before I get some of my own. I've told him I may well purchase a sub-set of his vast collection.
Am I right in thinking that the Cokin A Series will work fine with my D50?
Assuming yes, what essentails are your filter kit. In other words what should I look to buy off of him?
Cheers,
Iain

I believe the A series may not be suitable for wide angle lenses, you may need P series. Check it out before buying.

Cokin A will work just fine with your D50, it's the lens that you have to be concerned about (the mm width). Unless you have some fisheye or extremely wide-angle lens, you're probably fine with most of them.
First thing you need is the filter holder and various sized (depending on the lens you are using) filter holder attachment rings (can't remember what they're called - sorry - somebody help please).
As for useful filters: ND's in various stops, Graduated ND's, Circular Polarizer.
Some fun effects filters: Fog, Soft Focus, Star, Close-up (can't remember this name either).
The Cokin filters certainly can be useful. The biggest negative for me is when I want to use a lens hood...no using the Cokin's then. I bought a flare hood for the Cokin filter holder but hardly (almost never) use it.
There's another thread on DPC for Cokin filter user's. May want to look for that as well. I may have it 'watched'...I'll check.
Smile and keep having fun! ;^) |
