Is it just me / my software / my system / my network connection? Or has DPC slowed down recently?

I'm using Firefox and connect using Comcast (3Mbps download) and generally am very pleased with the performance I see on the internet. I had tested my internet performance using dslreports.com just a couple of weeks ago (put a new computer online) and it was around 3000Kbps. I tested again just now and it's at 3883Kbps so overall performance seems fine.

However, when I go to vote on a challenge, my screen fills with lots of empty image place holders. About 25% of the images appear almost immediately. Then there is about a 6 second delay of *nothing* - the connection appears to stall. Then some more images appear. And this happens a couple of times for up to about 25 seconds. Then Firefox shows that all updating is completed - and yet there remains about 10% of the images still empty!

It never used to take 25 seconds. And it never used to leave any empty image place holders. My perceived performance on other websites appears to be unaffected - but I don't really have any way of measuring them.

What bothers me is that it seems like this started around the time Firefox 1.5.0.5 came out (last week, I think). I'm now on 1.5.0.6 and the problem continues. But I don't know if this is a Firefox thing or a DPC thing. Again, other websites don't "appear" to be exhibiting a slow down (at least, nothing that I have noticed), and dslreports seems to think my network performance is unaffected.

Anyone else seeing this?

I agree with you here! Since Frefox upgraded I believe mine has been a bit slower too, especially when loading images. I seem to get lots of 'pauses' whilst loading pages!

I don't think it's a firefox issue as I have noticed it with both Firefox and IE. I just think bandwidth usage has probably increased a lot lately due to DPC's growth. Just a guess though.

Between the inter-site traffic between us and 2 Peas yesterday and all the links offsite to Steve Davidson's profile, the server is probably seeing a lot more traffic than usual.

Wow! It must be Firefox. I didn't try comparing the two before, but I did just now. Running IE 6 I opened up each of the challenge pages. Each one filled with images in less than a second. Went back to Firefox and tried again ... same dramatic slow down. Went back to IE (still keeping both browsers open now) same fast response. Went back to Firefox, same slow response.

Something has happened to Firefox... this hurts.

I got it!

I tried uninstalling FasterFox and now it's back up to speed again. Maybe FasterFox 1.0.3 isn't compatible with Firefox 1.5.0.6?!?

Anyway, all is well. Now back to voting.

Ironic, isn't it?

What's FasterFox a plugin? Maybe I don't have that as FireFox and IE seem to take the same amount of time loading DPC.

Yes, FasterFox is one of several extensions I had loaded. It generally speeds up Firefox. But since about the time 1.5.0.5 came out, it appears to have slowed it down instead.

Ahhhh....I run FasterFox as well! Maybe I should give removing it a try and see what difference it makes?

I have Comcast but I use AOL Explorer (I also have IE and Firefox). I havent noticed a slowdown in any of them.
