		| i know functionally it should be designed for the focal length and design of a certain lens but if two lenses have the same filter size would the hood fit them both ? |

		I have 3 Canon lenses with a 77mm filter diameter, but none of the hoods are physically interchangeable. There is also the design differences, as mentioned before. they are radically different.

 I think its to suppress too much light from coming into the lens. If it looks like a bucket, im guessing if they cut off the sides, like the petal hood, it would be useless and light would still come in.
 
 Then again, thats just me venturing a guess. |
