since Candy is a word not commonly used in New Zealand, I presume it means anything sweet.... the dictionary says it's meaning is 'to coat with sugar'

Since I grew up calling chocolate bars "candy bars" I really have to say yes, chocolate in form of candy is indeed candy. Chocolate cake or ice cream will remain cake and ice cream; but then it's all in your perception of what candy is. Widening it out to all things sweet sure would've increased the variety of photos this week.
It seems that an inordinate number of the candy entries have some focus problems. Has anyone else noticed this or am I going blind?

I have noticed that when taking pictures of candy, yes, focus is definitely an issue. I dont' know if it is the texture or what, but it is difficult, at least for me, to get a good focus. The MOST difficult thing to shoot is conversation hearts. No matter how well focused, because of the nature of the little beasts, they always look soft. But, then again, maybe I am jsut making excuses!
