I think that's what they are called, the nice spotlight beam affect through the clouds, how do you most effectively capture it.

| So cute, I call them God Rays, thought I was the only one. Sorry can't help as far as how to shoot them though. |

I've had the best success by underexposing a bit, since the automatically calculated exposure seems to blow out too much of the highlights. The last time I tried setting the exposure compensation to -2/3 and metered on the brightest part. Here are some pretty old ones:

How funny. I never knew anyone actually called that effect that, though by the title I used, my mind obviously went the same direction.
I didn't do anything special when I saw this, other than try to shoot as fast as I could before it disappeared. It was a really dark storm cloud, so the light coming through was pretty obvious. |

| Yeah, never heard that before. They're called crepuscular rays or to lay people, sunrays or sun rays. |

| I've heard them called "Gods Fingers" which I always thought was a nicely descriptive term. I always think of Renaissance painters when I see them, although I suppose they use a bit of dodging and burning to get that effect! |

I do it by shooting higher speed than what the meter says. 1/1000 to 1/4000 or even faster.

That's great, getting them on all sides like that! You might consider putting that up as a print image ... it has many marketable charactersitics. |

The last picture taken on a vacation to Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, Lake Mead, and Zion National Park.
I took this on the interstate (from the passenger seat) while driving back to Las Vegas airport to return home.
edit to add: I didn't take the time to do anything other than put the camera on auto, point and shoot. A bit of post processing to bring out the layers of mountains though.
