I'm pretty sure the D70 was brought out to compete with the 10D, and it fell behind when Canon introduced the 20D. Nikon were well behind the curve on this I think... I might be wrong.

You are. The D70 was aimed squarely at the rebel. Nikon hasn̢۪t released a camera at the D20-30 market segment since the D100, so it̢۪s due. |

I think the French photos that Rockwell has linked on his site are photoshopped. It they are real he is way off base saying there will be AI(s) support, cause there is no AI ring on the pictured camera. Plus if you really look at the images you can see that all the major parts are identical to other Nikons. Body from the D50, top LCD from the D200, etc. |

The D100 was the real 10D/20D competitor. The D70 sat between the 20D and the 300D, as it had a lot of features but not the high body quality. Nikon for a long time really had no competion for the 20D/30D, until the D200 came (but is priced a bit high).
The D70 indeed will remain in the productline. Nikon is going to offer a lot of choice. D50, D70s, D80, D200, D2Xs, D3h and maybe a D3 FF in 2007.
Expect a couple of pricedrops. I read from a very reliable source that the D200 price is going to drop (and when you are a good talker you should be able to negotiate an extra USD 100 from that price). When the D200 price drops all the other ones will too.

Well it's from Ken Rockwell...what do you expect from one of the most (if not the most!) misinformed and misleading person on the net... |

Good to hear that Nikon may fear the introduction of the K10D (or whatever you calll it).

Who need full frame when you have medium format? :P
