i would LOVE to see a panorama...

to tell the truth, i would love panorama-style shots (multiple images) to be "legal" for regular submissions...
but this would be great for a single challenge, i believe. with all the great landscape shots out there, i think there would be some amazing turn-outs for this.

anyone else interested?

I like the idea but i believe it would leave out to many people here. Not everyone has the gear or software for stitching. But I do love Pano's.

:-)

some of the pano software is free.. or there are free trials, and right gear? all you need is a camera...

I love doing panoramas also. My longest one was 75+ images taken of the Columbia River and surrounding hills at Astoria. Unfortunately, my computer at the time didn't have enough umph to process past about 20 some images. LOL! Now that I have more umph and memory, I need to try it again, but I want to re-take the shots.

I regularly do 5 to 15 images, including close up panoramas. This is 5 images stitched together:

What no tripod? No pano head? How would one compete with those that do? Then there is the learning curve for the free software ...

Don't get me wrong I like the idea. It just won't include everyone who might want to compete that's all.

This is 5 shots roughly stitched in Photoshop. It cut off my wife's hair. Overall though, I think it turned out well. Considering I didn't used a tripod.

The original was 15 shots...this version is only about half of it. I have it printed 6" by 7' at home. Took overnight to process and resulted in a 1 gig tiff file.

Yeah, shot handheld. You should check out the full pano. There's a link in the comments.

no offense, but anyone can enter any of the challenges. that's why it's called a "challenge". if it was easy, would it be fun? figure out how to do a pano, that's why you have a full week from the day it's announced. also, there are more than one type of challenge per category. do the other one.

once again, not trying to step on any toes, or tick anyone off.

For those that want the software, try the Hugin frontend, Panotools, and Enblend. It's all free, but there is a fairly steep learning curve. It's worth it though. If you run into memory problems, there's a way to set the amount of memory to use in Enblend.

Thanks for bring up panos again. I have a bunch of different series I need to stitch together.

PTAssembler is what I have been goofing with. It's not to hard and it is free.

Here are some examples of pano's done handheld, with a disposable camera:
//forum.autopano.net/t535-chicago-w-disposable-cameras

The example used AutoPano Pro (cost is 99 Euros), but there are other (free) panorama tools you could use.

I hand stitch my panos using CorelPainterIX. I'm sure you can use something like PS as well, but I like some of the tools in Painter better. Here is a pano from the same location and at the same time as one of my Challenge entries (referenced in the Photographers Comments). It is a hand stitch of 6ea. 1-minute exposures.
