I think Fotolia has the ability to use a stored release too. But how would you get a model to sign a release which would cover all future photos from that date onward? Normally, a release covers the date/location of the shoot. |

Wow. I feel like I've been spanked. I wasn't complaining. I was looking for a usuable workaround. Sorry for asking. But, for the record, I have put in with Verizon for both this site and Shutterstock to no avail. They consider them spam and will not let their email through. |

Didn't mean it that way at all -- I was just surprised that they could get away with blocking mail that you specifically request they let through. I don't let the US Mail decide what letters they deliver ... I just don't see how they can get away with it. I'm "upset" about Verizon, not you.
I'm not sure what to do as a workaround -- have you contacted Shutterstock to explain this problem? Perhaps they are in a better position to complain to Verizon with some hope of a response. Otherwise, maybe you can pre-arrange with them for some free email to use (like you gmail account). |

Actually, what I've been meaning to ask is how to handle the releases when there's more than one recognizable figure. e.g. a family shot. |
I know at Canstockphoto you can combine the model releases in PS and upload as one jpg image. I imagine that might work with others as well.

Sorry, I'm just a little touchy today. Verizon can and does get away with it. I've put in special requests with them for this site, and I believe Langdon tried to straighten it out on his end (by filling out forms for the site), all to no avail. For here, the gmail work around is fine (though it was frustrating getting to that point). I've contacted Shutterstock and explained and gave them my gmail address. All I can really do is wait for a response and if I don't get one assume they cannot work that way. |

I just went back and looked at the signup page. You're right, it doesn't say you can't use them, it say's please avoid them. I wonder if I can get in to change the email address without a password (which they send by email, which I can't get, LOL!). |

Nova,
I've used the "archived release" feature on Shutterstock. It's pretty nice. When you go to submit your picture, you can choose to upload release or use an archived copy. You click on archive and there's a list of all the releases that you've uploaded. Pick one and click OK or Submit, whichever one is there. |

I have not said anything about Stock in a while but I have been pretty busy. On my second attempt with ShutterStock they accepted me... and I have sold $25 in about a month there. I'm doing about $15 a week between all the sites I'm signed up with. Shutter and iStock being the best, then Dreamstime. 123RF... I don't know if I'm ever going to earn a payout with them.
For releases, I use the iStock release on all sites. I scan on just for I stock, then I remove the logos and such and all of the other sites I use accept it as well. Anyway... good luck to all!

That's pretty much what I did. I took their model release, copy/pasted it into Word, and tweaked it to make it generic. I'm on 4 sites, and they all take it without problems.

Very good. Thanks for that info, I'll be tweaking later this evening. :)
I'm up to $1.50 They seem to really like my daughter laying in a yard full of maple leaves in the Fall. Whatever works.

I've tried it for the first time Lisa and it seems to work well. I wasn't sure how to select multiple model releases so I held down CTRL like you would do to select multiple images in Windows, for example, and it seemed to work.
As for the discussion of generic model releases, I'll be giving that a try too. So much easier! Thanks all for the tips. |

Another solution if you've got your own internet domain is mail forwarding. Go to Godaddy.com and check out mail forwarding with their domain accounts. A domain usually costs lest than 10 to 20 bucks a year and can have as many as 100 email accounts that can be forwarded automatically to your verizon account. I just used godaddy as an example because I have a domain with them. I used to use POBOX.com but they went up on their prices. |

For me the ranking is...
Good Performers
Shutterstock (by a very large margin)
Ok Performers
Istock
Dreamstime
Dogs
Stockxpert
BigStockPhoto
Featurepics
123 Royalty Free
Lucky Oliver
Non-performers
Totally Photos
Canstockphoto
Greatstock

LuckyOliver is essentially in the start-up phase -- I think it is too early to judge. They are the only one I know of where you can call the phone number on the website and the boss answers the phone, and will call you back if it need be a longish chat ... |

they seem to be fairly eager to make things work at lucky oliver. It will be interesting to see how it goes. They don't seem to know what it takes to attract photographers though... compared to fotolia who managed to jump to the site with the most images in very few months.

I decided to give IStock a go and uploaded my three best sellers from Shutterstock as my application. They completely tore apart two of them and on the third one, they wrote "please send us something different". Meanwhile, those same three pics are being downloaded like crazy on Shutterstock. Ah well. |

Every stock site will have different likes and dislikes, just like here. My best seller at Shutterstock has never been accepted at any other site. It continues to sell well there. |

Hmmm... well, I do know that things that sell well on Shutterstock don't always sell well on istock or vice versa.
Plus, I think istock is becoming a bit more picky about submissions, perhaps feeling preasure from other sites to compete.

I think it's more of certain sites having so many images that they want different or better ones. |

All of these sites are between 3/4 and 1 million-plus images ... it's logical that stuff would have to be better/different to make the grade, at least unless/until they purge low-performers (not part of the original deal ...). |
