Hi Everyone,

For my second Print, it fits best in the 1.25:1 aspect ratio so I'm going with that, and the sizes are:

4 x 5 - dpi is 531. Great
8 x 10 - dpi is 265. Great
16 x 20 - dpi is 132. :( TOO LOW!

So if I want to sell prints in 16 x 20, is it "ethical" to Resample the image up to the required 150 dpi? If so, is 150dpi too low in most people's experience to provide a decent print? Could I even resample to say, 200 dpi, or would that be pushing the quality factor of the image?

I guess what I'm asking is, is there a rule of thumb on the PERCENTAGE that you can increase the dpi without running into problems. Example: 20%, 30%, 40%?

Normally it is safe to go up to around double your original DPI, but nothing more.

My answer to your question is really that you need to resize in small steps and pay attention to your image quality. By resizing too large, you hurt the site, the buyers, and yourself. For more on that, see this thread. I don't have very much experience resampling images myself, but I see the effects of poor resampling every day. I would say 25-40% tops.

Actually, I did print out John Setzler's tutorial on "Creating Printable Images" and noticed the "upsampling" part where he says to use 5% increments.

So I did that and went from 132 dpi up to about 207 dpi. Then I compared the image to the original and I can't tell the difference. For anyone who's not sure about this technique, use this link (it's a BIG help): //www.dpchallenge.com/tutorial.php?TUTORIAL_ID=10
