I've never, ever gone to a website starting with myspace.com and will never go. Ever.

It's best to avoid the entire site altogether, there are thousands of alternatives.

That kind of avoidance is not a good thing. It's quite easy to set up a myspace page and then link to your "real" web site.

It's free, kids dig it and it's a good avenue for band photography. Don't ignore Myspace, it's a big part of net culture today. Why miss free advertising?

Because:
a.) It's a stupid fad.
b.) I don't want people contacting me "who typ lik dis n cant use there brain".
c.) If I want extra advertising, it won't be to people who use Myspace, most likely. I'm boycotting it. People are using Myspace IN PLACE of their own domain name--hell, even movies are using Myspace as their "domain name."

Sorry to go off into a little rant, I just utterly despise Myspace.

hmmmm, I wonder how she feels about myspace? ;-) j/k ...

myspace and music photography? hell yeah. Ignore the billion users who want to chat, be friends with bands you shoot, and with bands you want to shoot.

do the same on any other free website. my official 10+ years in marketing opinion.

I'm rarely contacted by anyone with a chronic typing disorder, though I do get spam friends. However, the big things to keep in mind is that the people who make fads into trends are the same ones who make discoveries with regards to art. They like The Pretty very much and they like to pass it on to their friends.

I agree 100% with sammigurl. Have never been to myspace, although a friend showed me once, and I will never, ever go there. Is it a good way to get a certain exposure? Probably so. I'll take my chances without it.

I don't have anything against anyone who uses it, but to me, it's about as professional as linking to a facebook account. On that note, I think blogs rate only a few points higher.

If you're gonna' get site space, either get the free space through a photo site, or pay for the real-deal. I think boomtap made the right choice - an actual site is infinitely more versitile than a myspace, and much more professional.

95% of my shoots have been because of my advertisements on myspace

thats where all the bands are

thats where all the bands are looking for photographers

as much as everyone may hate it

it gets you work no doubt

It seems to me only those that haven't used it for such purposes are taking a stand against it.

Point: it works, use it. Also, take the more traditional web site, if you want and then link to it from Myspace.

Is myspace professional? Yes, it is as professional as you make your presence there.

Is myspace a fad. Certainly, but so is 95% of the advertising inudstry and 98% of the music industry which boomtap is trying to target. Myspace may be a fad, but social networking web sites are setting in and won't be going away anytime soon, ditto with blogging.

Now, why do I care wha others think about Myspace? I don't. So, I'm over it. Boomtap, use it. It suits your cause.

I suck at setting up myspace. I want it to be black with light gray text. Anybody know how I can get everything to be that way. Right now all I have is black for the blog.

Hehehe, no problem should be real easy with that editor, there is also others if you google myspace editors or myspace layouts. Hopefully some of those blessings fall on my zen score. :p

I don't think so, but I know you can paste photos onto your main page if you know html. If you don't know just get a free photobucket account and put your photo in there and it will generate the code for you. Or put thumbnails and have them link back to your new webpage :)

If you know css, you can just write that up and put it in the bottom of your "about me" box. Like this. :)

say what you want about myspace.com, but I have made more contacts and new jobs for senior pictures there than the newspaper.

Everyone hates myspace...

It can be put to great use when done correctly.

Ya, I am thinking for networking you have to do it. Although I don't want a job in photography. It is just for fun.

Well, I have myspace hooked up. I took much of your advice on here, thanks. Myspace sucks, and it is friggen a pain in the neck too, but I am already getting views so I guess it is worth it.

Post your myspace so I can add you as friends.

your site turned out nice!! i've been contemplating doing the same thing. I had a myspace for a while (just for myself, not photography) but i got sooooo sick of it... but after checking out the responses to this forum i think i've come to the conclusion that it's really an awesome way to get exposure... and can give you somewhere to post photo blogs and what not! i'm probably gonna go ahead and make one soon, as well as a REAL website. :)

I've had a myspace account for a while, but just recently did something with it. Nothing fancy at the moment, but it will probably be a decent place for a bit of networking in the future, like many here have said.

Everyone feel free to add me as a friend as my list is pretty bare :)

I think the best advice I got was to put the thumbnails from my real site on my myspace site. I am hoping that this weekend I will have the time to work on my real site, and tweak the myspace.
