A couple comments:

1. When we were working, we always kept a variety of coolers handy; mostly Coleman plastic coolers. They work really well to protect stuff from heat build-up in locked vehicles.

2. If you are worried about theft (some of the posters have mentioned it) the WORST thing you can do is park your car at the store, lock your gear in the trunk, and leave the car; there are thieves that LOOK for exactly that behavior and target vehicles based on it. If that's the way you feel about your gear and where you live at, whatever, then have it in the trunk as you travel.

I never leave my camera in the car! I always like to carry a camera in my bag I take to work. In the past its been a Olympus mju II 35mm compact but I recently bought a cheap digi p&s (fuji A500), so that is with me all the time I am out. I even took it to the hospital a while back, when the nurse asked me to take everything out of my pockets she was a bit taken back when I produced the camera!

Solution to a Hot Car

I personally do not own one, but know someone who swears it works as well as leaving a car running with the air conditioner on and set to low.

I am thinking of getting one. Solar powered, too, I am told.

I rarely leave mine in the car, even if I'm going in the store, to much of a chance of it being stolen.

I'll sit in a 130 degree car before my camera will. It goes into the store with me!
