1. If you can't wait until the challenge closes at midnight so you can give out your 1's, 2's and 3's, YOU ARE A TROLL!
2. If you like to pick out photos that will probably rate a ribbon and give it a "1", YOU ARE A TROLL!
3. If a "3" is a high score to you, YOU ARE A TROLL!
4. If you secretly hope that DPC never publishes who voted what on a photo, YOU ARE A TROLL!
5. If you never vote during the daytime because the nighttime is when you do your best work, YOU ARE A TROLL!
6. If you never submit a photo to a challenge because you would have to give it a "1", YOU ARE A TROLL!

It seems there a few of them lurking about right now.
My colour on colour entry has been doing nothing but go up all day, and now it has suddenly started dropping.
Mmmm.
Methinks there is some sneaky business afoot.

Well then, I'm a troll. I always vote at night. My studio/office is in a very bright, sunny room, and I can evaluate images critically with much more accuracy under the controlled ambient lighting at night. That's also when I do all my serious editing.

Of course, my average vote cast is just a whisker over 5.0, and I suppose some might consider that troll-like, but at least I'm consistent :-)

i had asked this awhile ago in a semi-related thread but isnt there some way to have a list of our average votes cast? just to see what it is.

You can see each persons average vote cast on their profile page. Just take a look. I'm not sure what purpose it would serve to put it all in a list. It would make it almost a race to see who could be where and they goes against the sites purpose of voting fairly I think

I think that everyone have seen photos in the challenge results that they had given high points and were sure that it would ribbon, only to find out that it had a poor finish. In fact, I have seen this comment by voters on their after challenge remarks. On the positive side, I am glad to see that some of you are happy with your voting results. As for me, I am fairly new and am continuing to improve my photography education.
SPECIAL NOTE TO BEAR_MUSIC: I really admire your work and appreciate all your mentoring work here and the help you offer to others.

I am not proude of my Avg Vote Cast: 4.8853
but looking at yours 3.8 makes me think you are indeed a TROLL.
The purpose of this thread is then maybe just to find somebody like you :-)

The average vote of a person does not tell you anything about how unfairly they vote even though it seems to be looked down at by people with higher vote averages.

My voting average that you see in my profile was done in the first few days after I found DPC. I thought some people had used other artwork such as a religious statue, But the DPC committee sent me a PM informing me of reality and in a nice way. Since then I have never vote a "3" or below again. And never will.

I think I have as much of a problem with the idea of giving a 4 just because someone pointed their camera and pushed the shutter button as I do with giving a 1 because you are tired of (dragoflies/flowers/waterfall/whatever).

By all means, everyone should develop their own ideas of what meets a challenge and what makes a good photo and vote accordingly, but I think if a voter is willing to give a 10, he/she should be willing to give a 1.

yeah voting in the range of 3-10 as to avoid lowering your average vote is kind of dumb. Most of my votes are in the 4-6 range, most as in almost all of them. If a shot just misses the challenge completely, and is terrible, or pretty darn bad, I'm not going to feel bad about giving a 1 to that photo. 10's from me are however, nearly impossible... 8's are usually the highest I give out in any given challenge (and usually only 2-3 of them), but higher does happen sometimes.

From what I've seen, the term "troll" is usually used to describe someone who maliciously votes down nice shots.

If you don't like a shot, feel free to vote it however low you like. Doesn't make you a troll.

Artificially pumping it up is as useless as artificially putting it down.

From a ranking perspective, you'll have the same impact if you vote every picture 4-6 as if you vote every one 1-3 or 8-10. The average scores of the ones you vote on will change a little, but not the rankings, which is really what matters if you're shooting to do well in challenges.

So vote how you like. :)
