I got this brand new Canon lens 75-300 zoom, a week ago today. I was out shooting this afternoon for Zen, and all of a sudden, it went black. I can't see out the lens anymnore? It turns on, I recharged the battery thinking maybe that was the problem. Nope. I don't know what happened!!! It almost sounded like the shutter never opened back up? And now I see nothing but black.
Anyone know what might be the problem?? I'm so bummed out!! |

I'm not too techie with this stuff, but sounds like your shutter is stuck...not a problem with the lens. Have you tried other lenses.
Did you take the lens cap off? ;-) Kidding.

Yeah, my husband just took off the lens, and it's definitely the shutter. It won't move all the way down. ARG. I wonder how much this will cost? Or, is it even fixable? yikes. ;( |

The shutter on my 20D stopped working a few weeks ago. Cost to fix it was about $200.

I've heard it's between $175 and 400 to get a shutter fixed. I'd call canon before sending it in to see if it's worth it (obviously the camera isn't worth much over $400 anymore) |

Did you try the small (memory) battery too? Any error 99's or anything?

Just so you know...your post is very confusing. Lens' can't stop working (unless they are IS or the motor breaks) - but the actual optics can't "stop working" - it's just glass.
If everything goes black, always assume first that it is a camera problem. |
