Okay, back on my own computer with a new hard drive, but still not sure if I have anything left of the old.
After reading a thread the son downloaded a mentioned recovery program. What it doesn't tell you until its recovered the data is that, yes, it allows you to view it, but not do anything else with it unless you pay $$$$$$ for the license :( It looks like I may have lost a few pics, but most of them seem to still be there, so THAT is good.
So, son is going to talk to his geek friends and see if anyone has any suggestions and, if not, he's going to try the freezer trick suggested in the same thread. So don't uncross anything yet!

Well...I am still working on it. At the moment the one layer PSD file is sitting at a mere 463mb. So it is a bit slow going.

Eh, just compress it down to a jpeg so you can work on it easier... :)
