I want to create a database of my photos

I've figured out how to put clickable links to view photos in each record, but is there a way to put a little thumbnail in the record? I could swear I've seen it done. Maybe it was a little bit different program.

Thanks, Amanda

Its possible. I've done it.
I'm at work right now, but when I get home tonight I'll send you some code that I put together for a project I am working on.

Cheers....Martin

Binary large object (blob). You can store image (jpeg for instance) data in such database fields, including the ones used by Access. To get the clickable link, you will have to put some code behind the Access database form.

For anyone else interested in doing something like this. Here is a step by step. Feel free to PM me with any questions.

So here is what you could do. Its simple really.

1. Create your table with Name, link to larger external photo, and what ever other details you have.
2. Add to that table a new field that is of OLE Object type called Thumbnail or whatever you would like to call it.
3. In photoshop, or whatever software you use, create/open all the thumbnails you would like to use. In JPEG format.
4. At the same time you have the table open in Datasheet view. Go into photoshop and hit ctrl A, ctrl C to copy the first thumbnail.
5. Go back to the table and in the column you set as thumbnail, click once in the column and then right-click and paste the clipboard into the cell corresponding to the photo link. You should see, after a few seconds, the word Adobe.Photoshop.Image or something like that. If it just says Picture, the thumb is too large. I have found that the largest you can go is about 14 inches on the longest side. But we are talking about thumbnails, so you shouldn't have that problem.

Repeat steps 4 & 5 for each photo.

6. Close the table once all of your thumbnails have been loaded.
7. Click on Forms - Create form by using wizard - Select the table you just filled with thumbs.
8. Select all of the fields you would like to show on your form including the thumbnail field.
9. Pick the columnar and whatever style and your done. Save the form. Click on the records button at the bottom to cycle through the thumbs.

Easy!

Cheers....Martin

If there is enough interest, I could put together a tutorial for the Tutorials page.

Thank you Martin! I'll have to check it out later, after work...

Hopefully I won't have any problems, but if I do, I assume it'll be just fine to PM you?

Thanx again, Amanda
