Given that about a million people have done that shot, I'm not sure that means anything.
And legally, no, people cannot steal photos and get prints. But there are tons and tons of photos uploaded to photobucket and they really have no way of knowing or checking individually. They rely on people to point out the stolen photos, pretty much like any other site on the web. |

I see... You are right we are talking about a stolen idea. I know it is easy to steal photos off the net. I also understand that some of this is just kids that like the photo. It would be nice if they didn't try to take credit for the stolen items.

I have no idea what that is, but if it means that you woudl pre-program an image to only show up on specific sites and if it shows up elsehwere a chemical combustion occurs and burns the page to the ground, I'll second. |
Apparently you and Pai Mei think alike. :P |

I'd be surprised if people are gettign rich selling prints from 640X480 images. Not saying it's right to steal photos, just trying to put a little perspective on the safety of DPC images. |

Thanks for all the help, everyone. I've looked at all three of her sites (2 Myspace & Photobucket) and my shot appears to have been removed from all. That, or I don't know how to navigate them. If anyone sees "Diamond Derriere" on any of her sites, please let me know.
Thanks to everyone, again. MK - my profound thanks! Bec, Pedro, GreatandSmall, my deepest appreciation.

OK, I had posted a photo of a childs feet in the thread about foot photos/research. I did a google search on my username, clicked on photos, and lo and behold a photo of mine came up on photobucket. All my photos that showed up showed DPC as the source, except for the one. I have requested photobucket remove the picture and they have complied. So if anyone posted any pictures that you are concerned about you may want to do the same style search.
If someone knows of a better way to search I would appreciate the help.
Ken

Nothing that complicated. When you steal an image, it reaches out and plucks your eyeball out. Either you learn quickly or you're not a threat after two offenses. |

I used to think I was young and hip. Now, I must be getting old because I get so depressed when I go to myspace etc. and see how many people (especially young people) degrade themselves.
I keep asking myself "What is this world coming to?"

I prefer the Five-Point Palm Exploding Heart Technique. 5 steps and POW. no more problem. |

IDK, I'm 21 and I find it disgusting; there are soooo many teens (and women of all ages for that matter) on there and the pics they take of themselves and the comments they receive and make just make me sick and annoyed. |

Why is this so prevalent now? Is it the internet that puts an artificial barrier between viewed and viewer, that makes women feel able to do this? Or is it culture - MTV..etc that keeps lowering the barrier of what is acceptable and what isn't? Are reality shows skewing people's view? IE Everyone is now craving their 15 minutes of fame (no matter what the forum) and in fact feels enititled to it? |

I think it was the hippy movement, hardly anyone feels responsible for themselves anymore... How often do you hear a student admit they got a bad grade because they didn't study hard enough? no, you almost always hear, "that teacher is horrible" and "that test was too hard"
People don't have hardship anymore, they don't have to work for anything, so they get bored. How many kids go outside to play anymore? it seems they don't know what to do with themselves without their gameboys.
but yeah, I think the whole MTV/Reality show stuff is a culture change, where everyone claims they are oppressed, because it couldn't possibly be their fault for not doing anything with their lives... what with all the scholarships that are only available to people in unfortunate circumstances...
Sorry, I guess I'm still in rant mode.... I need to go back to bed for a while. |

I've read this whole thread - and here's a couple of thoughts.
Like many of you I want to take this photography thing as far as it can go - I want my work seen my many and hopefully to make the world better with my work.
This technology is amazing - I'm selling my photos in London! I've sold images many times from people just finding them on my website - thousands of dollars have come to me because I have posted online.
The downside is that someone may be posting my images in their online "collection". If you are any good, and DPC members are pretty darn good, your online portfolio is going to get lifted.
And the "bigger" you get the more it will happen. That link a ways back had a shot of the Olsen twins (all skanky and sitting on the floor). Who shot that? Think of the work a photo shoot like that takes to execute and there it is sitting in some schmoes PhotoBucket.
I feel anytime you take anything that isn't yours it's stealing (my mom would be so proud). So what is happening here is wrong - no doubt. But the more your work is known, the more you expand your influence and reach in the world, the more of this is going to happen. It's just a fact.
I think energy spent expanding will serve one better than chasing the ever-increasing multitudes of small people. If they are hurting your bottom line or increasing theirs in a big way, hunt them down. Being included in PhotoBucket galleries is just part of the terrain.
It's like a warped little compliment. :-|

One of the differences in this case is some classy and artistic nudes were mixed in with low grade porn images. That in no way helps the photographer - and it's definitely the wrong market. |
