War image

Look at the image on the above page. Forget the source, and I'm not interested in the politics, just the irony of the guys watching the war on TV, as they watch in reality, and then someone else photographs the scene.

I'd find it really hard to lounge on the couch with explosions in eye-sight... but maybe I'm a bit paranoid :-)

I guess they're used to it:))

If that were you, you'd have some lebonese cheese on your person;)

Replace cheese with poo and your statement would be more correct... I don't think I'd deal well with incoming bombs.

They have dealt with that their whole life. So will their kids, grandkids, etc etc.

So that's the roof top where they have the furniture and tv? Nice view btw.

I think war should be between the leaders and not the people.
Throw them each into an arena with a club and the winner wins the war. simple - no innocent teenager gets sent to war unwillingly and gets killed for something he does not believe in.

I agree with that, but we have wimpy 'YO Blair', who can't stand up to Bush let alone fight anyone in a ring:(

This is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. My apologies, but it is. You must be a liberal.

Funny, that's how the Jews and the Philistines settled matters, one champion vs. the other, mano a mano. Of course, getting President Bush anywhere near combat has always proved a tricky task ...

LOL:))

Anyone remember that Frankie Goes To Hollywood video for 'When Two Tribes Go to War? Didn't it have Reagan/Nixon and Brezhnev fighting in a boxing ring?

video

Call me a cynic, but it's 5000 years later and they haven't settled shit.

Maybe that's because they're still sending ordinary folks out to settle ideological disputes between politicians. Ordinary folks, pretty much the world around, are willing to live and let live ... I think the Palestinians may have missed their big chance when they could have pitted Yasser Arafat against Menachem Begin -- perhaps slings and arrows at thirty paces ...

Oh and don't forget we have Jessie "The Body" Ventura in our political stable :-)

Ohhh..and I hear a rumor that Hank Williams Jr. is thinking about running for Governor of Alabama...he has a "shotgun, a rifle and a four wheel drive...and a country boy can survive..." :-)

we all are citizens of a country one way or another. we vote elected officials to represent us. we live with their decisions respectfully and vote otherwise next time around if in disagreeance. And at least in America, military service is voluntary and they willingly put their lives on the line for our rights, beliefs and freedoms. Sometimes personal belief does not come before honor, courage and duty. Especially in voluntary service of any kind.

I think only 16% of the UK voted for Labour/Blair last time - hardly a mandate for THIS!!

I was referring to the Korean civil war back in the 1950's where young boys were forced into the war as soldiers, pulled from their homes by army recruiters - many whom do not even know why they are fighting except for their own survival in the battlefield that they are suddenly put into. It was tragic. It was just an example.

don't underestimate the intelligence of young adults. But you make a good reference to the Korean War: a war easily forgotten in my part of the world, but important and moving nonetheless.
