My first attempt at a self portrait with the XT, found out very quickly I NEED a remote, lol. I’m posting the set up shot to. The Doll was used as a focus point so I could get in relative focusâ€Â¦. And it worked surprisingly well. That’s why my head is in kind of a weird position though. 1-4-1 Comments, thanks everyone

Oh! And any recommendations for a good (inexpensive) portraiture lens?

I agree with the off-centered comment. not a square crop though. when I opened it some of the black space on the right side was cut off and I didnt notice. I loved it.but after reading that comment I noticed i was missing some of the picture and it really WAS centered . I didnt like it as much when i saw the full, centered shot. definately off centered is better. |

Best inexpensive lens you can buy would be Canon's 50mm f1.8. Nice self portrait, too :o) |

Can get that 50mm and the remote control for under a hundred bucks if you look around. |

Thanks for the comments everyone! and I've been hearing about the 5omm quite a bit, and i've found a couple decent prices. Oh,, and the "goop" is a 5min. face mask i found laying around the house (as a base), i then slaped my face with flour for a good 10-20 mins. Then added various other white powders found around the house ;-) and about the hairâ€Â¦ This was an outtake for B&W in colour that I decided not to enter, so the white was covering my brown hair. And about the crop, I actually tried a couple other different variationsâ€Â¦ I find the centered composision gives more of a “desolation?” type look, but I’ll defiantly try some others nowâ€Â¦. And I’m thinking of extending the canvas for more height? Is that a good idea?

Definately. My punk ass has a 7.2 in B@W in color. and your pics WAY better than mine. I think you would have killed with this in that challenge. |

Is that a "real" black backdrop or homemade? I was just thinking this morning on how to create one for home without spending too much. |

haha, 2 black curtains, or drapes, or whatever you call them. Anyway, they’re overlapped rite to the right of my earâ€Â¦ can’t see it, but that’s because I was about a foot out from the backdrop with only natural light, in a closet (see setup, lol) So anything but real ;-) |
