I think it's good to know why a photo scores as it does, whether high or low score.
I want to hear people's opinions in either direction. |

Good grief, did someone just pour "stink juice" on my entry? So far today I have gotten nothing but 2s and 3s with an 4 thrown in. And the only commments I have gotten are:
Cool.
Nice Job.
Great image.
Etc....
What gives? If you don't like it fine, I can live with that, but at least tell me why you think it stinks. I'll agree that it is no ribbon winner, and will probably not finish well. That's ok. But I would like to know why you think it only merits a 1 or a 2.
With all due respect to the many talented members here, help us with less experience learn the art. Don't just say it stinks with your vote, or leave worthless comments.

This serves me right for not listening to my gut instinct. I battled through the week wondering just which way the voters would swing...no colour at all and just B&W seems to have been the way I should have gone.
But, not to worry! This is just my 4th Challenge and I'm enjoying the ride :o)

That is a little bit strange. I came across that saying a few months back, and it summed up the way I feel perfectly about how people perceive one another, and I've been using it ever since.

I discovered this saying just after Christmas, to me it summed up how I am in life......I'll say exactly how I feel and if you can handle it you'll stick around....if you can't, its your loss!

okay...my photo score has been explained in more detail. Two DNMC's because my photo (for the sake of not revealing it) has all black or all white in it and not both.
That mixed in with it not being a WOW photo.

So do I, but then again - if I didn't get any feedback then I would have a look at the voting and what got the votes etc, then make a guess as to what I would have to do. Obviously, I could be wrong. Then again (again), I know that when I leave commentary on the pictures of others I'm trying to say the right thing, I use vocabulary that I borrow from what I've read in the comments of others, and I am guilty (not always, I hope) of regurgitating formulaic phrases that have more generic reference to dpc pictures as a whole than specific reference to the picture at hand. For better or for worse.
I'm good at long words - do I get a round of applause now, please?
The point of the words is/was, that I need to trust and be a friend to that intuition that I use to guess what's going on, just as much (maybe) as I need to be in dialogue with commentators. No offence to the commentators, I love you, but my intuition is a vital part of my perception of the universe.

I too had trouble understanding what a color black and white photo entails, but I followed the rules to a tee and only had black and white in my color photograph. It is an abstract. I can't seem to get very good scores. This is why I joined. I need the experience. |
