yeah my scores have been jumping between the 6.9's and 7.1's all morning. Ive gotten some ones balanced out by tens but mostly just 6's and 7's. where i'll end up is anybodies guess. but i have a couple sixes already. i'd really love to end with a 7.anything just to know i got a 7. lol even if its 7.000. i know it's trivial. but somehow it matters to me.

I really thought this was a better than average image. I assume the color in the image is its demise. My main subject is b/w with a color background. There is no doubt what the main subject is here. Very clear, in focus and a (my perception) nice image.

Eggggggggggggggg! Where are the comments!!

HA...even with a DNMC for having too much of one color (black or white) I'm starting to go up...and just made it over the four mark. If it goes at this rate...by the end of the week I might make it to 4.2

Hmm.

Own artistic DPC-friendly vision!

This time, I played around with a common DPC theme just to see if I could create something that would work. Apparently, it does so far, since I'm at 6.1ish.

As a newbie, I'm experimenting with every possible style/technique I can find.

I guess if ya cares about scores, ya shoots DPC-friendly. Otherwise, ya takes yer chances. On da udder hand, if ya gets comments from people who "get" your vision, then ya succeed regardless of score. :)

I strongly disagree there is any DPC standards for voting. I do not think DPC has its "likes" or "Dislikes" norms... Not all the winning photos are naked woman, drops, flowers etc.

Before anyone make any comments like this, I strongly suggest go back to 500 + DPC history and check out the winning photos.

DPC is a very well working machine if you ask me.

(minor glitches don't count with this issue)

my 2 cents :)

You're entitled to your $0.02. :)

I do think certain things, and certain visual styles, tend to score better. I got that impression after looking through several dozen challenges, trying to see what I like and what others like. Can't say I've looked at every entry in every challenge, but I've looked at hundreds, of not thousands, of photos.

I'm not talking about ribbons only, but my impression is that many high scorers are the things the other person was talking about. Bright, colorful pictures of sunsets and sharp macros of bugs score highly here. As do pretty water glasses and nicely framed nudes. They might also score highly elsewhere, but I'm just talking about on DPC.

But please understand that to me, that's not a complaint. The voters vote for what they like. That's their $0.02. So then the challenge, if you're going for a high score, is to figure out what they like.

As for me? I look for something to shoot that I think is cool and DPC voters will like.

Where did I hint that DPC doesn't work well? I think it's a fantastic site. I've learned so much in my short time here, my photos are improving as I go, and I love the friendly exchanges in the forums. Heck, every shot for a challenge is a learning experience, from thinking up the idea to setting it up to taking the shot to post-processing.

I've been here well over a year and have close to 100 challenges under my belt. I think I have a little experience. On the whole, technically well done, bright, flashy images score better. Not saying they win. But its easy to get a score over 6 with a bright, DPC friendly image. Trust me - I have a ton of them.

I am now past the point where score matters. I am working on somehow figuring out how to create an image where 'I' feel my artistic needs have been met while at the same time pleasing the viewer. I have done it once and got a 7.3. I just have to continue to figure out how to marry the two. In the mean time, I have no urge to 'get great scores' (my WPL teammates are crying now) so I'll shoot what I like and hope the voters and I agree. In this challenge, they don't, but there's always the next one.

I never once said DPC was not working and I love DPC as it is. It allows me the opportunity to stretch my mind and my photography. But, I do know how to please the crowd and I know how to please myself. They aren't the same all the time.

My $0.02 was not targeted to anyone, but it was in general. I heard this complaint many times, and happened to read one here to, so, I wrote what I wrote.

I still think people here (which from all over the world) have very good judgement when it comes to photos. Many of us (not including me at this point) are pros...

So, keep it cool... it's was a burst, shouldn't go anyone's backyard :)

I'll let you know in about four or five hours. Have to sit around a wait a little longer to get to that boarding stage, where we all act like well-behaved cattle, walk down a ramp, then behave like sardines, and squash into uncomfortable seats. With luck, I won't get the lady and her 14 month old son who definitely had Mommy trained to do whatever he wished. Heck, she was *apologizing* relentlessly for the fact he had to stay in his car seat for takeoff and landing. Apologizing. AND it cost me my window seat - first time in ages I've had a window seat, and I had my camera with me, and it was a very clear day. Sigh.

I love traveling for work. Really, I do. Can you tell?? I do have pictures of cows, though....

You know, these challenge descriptions are not meant to be shackles..they are meant to challenge the creativity of people. In the many years I have hung out here...I can't remember Drew or Langdon coming on here and clarifying challenges in a restrictive tone. I always get the sense they like people pushing boundaries and looking for stuff outside the lines but within the spirit and intent of the challenge.

Challenging the creativity.... wonderful words Hokie!!

yeah, it would be nice if people just voted on the quality of the presented image.... because whether or not it is violating this or that, it will be verified. Plus, we're not "really" voting on whether the photo is breaking rules, we're finding that one unique and inspiring image... um... that at least meets the goals of the challenge...eh.

Basically we're not in charge of DQing images! That's all I mean :)
So, hopefully low scores aren't given to try to 'punish' the rule-breakers ! Because you never know when you could be wrong, right?

"This is crazy! :0 I was just asked for validation of my image. Good thing I was home to do it and I hope I sent it in right (original and then steps?). Maybe this is why my scores suck. No one knows what to vote on my image. It's gone from a 6.0 to a 3.8 to a 4.7? EEEEK!"

My husband's image was just DQ'd, said no post-processing to B&W. He did not shoot in B&W nor desaturate. Can it be reconsidered?

How do you find out how many 1s vs 10s you have during voting?
