Thanks Louis and atupdate for your comments. I knew this challenge was going to be dominated by excellent seascapes :)

107th. Not that I'm complaining about my score, though I really thought this would do better. A lot of my challenge shots are pretty ghastly, so I know why I deserve the scores I get. I certainly didn't think this one deserved the 1's, 2's or 3's.

I went to the nearest place that could qualify as *beach* according to the challenge description. The image has water, a land bordering water, and some subject at that place. Just wanted to know what others thought about this image *meeting the challenge* requirement.

Left you a comment. I think it meets the challenge.

I know what you mean. I got at least five comments saying no beach, or doesn't meet the challenge.

I mean were do people expect to find this little guy except by water (pond/lake). His hands were still dripping. (oh and yes he is real and alive, and yes I was within a couple of feet.)

I gave you an 8 on this. Thought it was a clever take on the challenge and was a nice sharp image. Considered posting your image in my opening comment for this thread, but you ended up what 32nd with a 6.4 score? Not a bad performance! ;^)

Thanks Prism and C-Fox. Now I am convinced that the majority thinks that my image meets the challenge. C-Fox, that is an excellent shot, not easy to get that expression. Very nice timing. I left you a comment.

My favorite from the challenge:

I though mine would score a bit higher, but only I knew it was candid and not posed. Not sure if that would have influenced the voting or not, but I did get at least one comment on how it would have been better without the tripod. And I agree. My entry:

But the fact is that I can not understand how people can vote it down so bad for just having a fu**ing a$$crack in the picture.

Its not like it is distastefull like many nudies I have seen in here.

Oh well I will not try to stir up more shit about the picture, I just think it is lame that sissies vote down pictures becouse of the a$$crack.

Hey your crack did better than mine, so don't get all cracked up over it. ;)

Well, you can't get rated much lower than 314th out of 321... Is it UNDER-rated? I'm not the one to answer that, but of course I think it deserves a little better than a sub-4 score :-) I suppose the fact that nobody else has nominated this as "most underrated" kind of answers my own question...

Robert - You're going to extremes to keep people from recoginizing your work? Funny, I actually thought of you when I saw this, but decided you weren't THAT crazy. Guess I was wrong. ;^)

Looks like your thread would have been nearly nonexistant then. :)

no real surprise -- people seem to vote highly for sunsets

it seems to me that people submit so many sunset photos that they are getting to be pretty boring. it is much more difficult to get a good photo of the beach in the middle of the day

Boring- well thank you ;-)

Certainly didn't feel boring turning the plan intop reality. First of all checking the sunrise and tide times, then working out a location, booking hotels, driving 3hrs to stay overnight, leaving the hotel at 3:00am to be in place before sunrise. Standing in knee deep cold North Sea seawater.

Images like these don't just happen, well ok they may once in a while. They are planned, designed and excuted. To be told that the results are boring is a bit of an insult really.

So once again I thank you.

I was surprised that my entry, which I love, bombed so badly at 4.7

Too bad you couldn't have taken a shot of all that.

I either have horrible taste, or suck as a photog - maybe both. I really thought this one would pull me back to a 6.

Wake up! That image is way too interesting to do well in DPC. It doesn't answer any of the fundamental DPC questions:

What is it a picture of?
What does it make me want to purchase/copulate with?
How'd you get to be so shiny and pretty?

if not for the frame this could have been a top 10, proof that frames can kill ;:)
