it fits in because it doesnt say in the description that it cant have color. it says SUBJECTS or SUBJECT not background. the challenge couldve been interpreted either way, but people shouldnt vote our photos low because you dont think it fits. It doesnt say shoot a photo in color but make it look like a B&W, thats your interpretation. it says shoot black & white subjects.

Well, I am getting hammered on my shot and it is purely black and white so I guess that means it's just a lousy photo lol.

Still, if you shot black and white and included some color in the shot you knew you were asking for it so why even bitch about the scoring.

Roger that....Its a risk , for some it might pay out ,for others it might not...i am happy with mine with slight color traces in it irrespective wat the final result be.....

This is crazy! :0 I was just asked for validation of my image. Good thing I was home to do it and I hope I sent it in right (original and then steps?). Maybe this is why my scores suck. No one knows what to vote on my image. It's gone from a 6.0 to a 3.8 to a 4.7? EEEEK!

I just entered my Zen and I love it. I hope it does well but I love it anyway. :D This b/w challenge? Not sure I love my entry. It's ok, but a bit whakky. I guess I was so excited to be a member here that I really came up with a goofy idea. :--)

My action shot, I'm not happy. I got a lot of action shots this morning but they all need more then basic editing steps to process. Darnit. BUTTTT, I have another idea, so I will have to wait and see if I can get that one in on time. It means a bit of traveling to do and not sure I am going that far this week. I will try and see what happens, but I don't like bits and pieces so action it is!

You have a point. My intrepration was as such because I've seen B/W in color being done on another photo site before. Not saying though that is has to be all void of any color, it can or cannot, depends on the photo. But if there is more than one object in the photo, one b/w and one not, and both are equally important to the image as a whole, that's a toughy. In any case, so far I can easily say at least more than half of the photos are perfectly on topic. Haven't looked through them all yet.

Hmmm...some grumpy voters this late morning? I've seen my score drop .35 in the last 20 votes. It was moving up earlier until around 9am (Eastern Standard Time), then poof!

Oh well...it's still only the first day. ;^)

I say if there is a black & white subject in a color image then it meets the challenge. The question should be was the spirit of the challenge met. But sadly that is not the case as most seem happy with their own literal interpretation of the challenge description. As is the Tao of DPC.

:-P

I would be pleased to stay above 6, even though I think it is a better score than this. Pretty pleased to have stayed up this high considering that I may (or may not) have some color in my shot. Cant wait to get home Friday to start some voting and commenting.

I've hovered right around a 5 for the entire voting time. First 2 votes averaged a 5...so, I guess mediocrity is the theme of mine.

RULES: Take a COLOR photo of a black & white (or grayscale) subject or subjects. Conversion/desaturation to black and white or shooting in black and white is NOT allowed.

These are the rules, it doesn't say that the photo should have no color, it only states that the subject/s should be black and white, I think voting down a photo because it has some color on it while having a totally black and white subject/s is just too shallow...

careful here... mine was neither shot in b&w or desaturated but i've had at least one comment that says it "obviously" was _and_ i've had a validation request...

though, to be fair, my photo does suck, so i might welcome a DQ...

Well according to the rules they all better have color. That's the part people can't get their mind around.

:-)

It's fairly easy to tell if something (subject) was shot in color mode versus shot in B/W or desat applied, even if there isn't any "color" showing in the image.

Yes it should ... but my point still holds true.

At least you all gets comments with your 1 votes. ;) I'm going back to shooting completely DPC friendly water glasses, flowers, bugs, pretty girls and water drops. Its so much easier...
