I'm considering changing my camera for 2 big gripes, lens sharpness (100% crops are as good as useless - lacks detail, fuzzy) and poor wide-angle (widest of 38mm leaves a lot to be desired). What camera (prosumer) do you guys recommend I take a look at, that do not have the above 2 problems I mentioned?

try sony r1, but it has some limitations if you can live with them, the lense is simply wonderful.

Oops, I think I should have mentioned why I'm sticking to a prosumer and not a dSLR - I would like to have video capabilities. So, I'm afraid the Sony R1 is out of the list (unfortunately)

I know, and a top-of-the-line model at that too, with APS sized sensor and a lens that would justify the cost of the entire camera itself. But I really needed video recording so I'm forced to put the R1 out of my list :-/

Your not going to find a prosumer that gives you 100% crops you are able to use without heavy editing. Even a DSLR with a high quality lens won't give 100% crops that don't need some sharpening. What are your trying to use them for?

You can really open up your options if you forget about the video recording part. I mean, the video 'feature' is just an afterthought on most cameras. You have to worry about how much space you have on your card, frame rates, and resolution

You can pick up a dv handycam for about $350 that is designed specifically to record video. And you've got an hours worth of storage space on a dv tape. And a good frame rate and resolution. And all the other video-specific functions you're just not going to find in a digital camera.

I bought a handycam a few weeks ago and haven't looked back.
