It seems like there has been a lot of debate about what challenge descriptions are 'supposed' to mean, and disappointed members who's photos are being dinged because their interpretation isn't exactly what other people thought the challenge should be. Could people not just vote primarily on the picture itself, as long is it's plausible that the photographer was shooting what they thought the challenge meant? I've seen a lot of "I think the challenge means ____, so that's the way I'm voting" type statements lately. If it's possible to interrpret the challenge a different way, then why vote those photos down, just because it's not the way you took it? Fine, if the challenge is Blue, and there isn't even a spot of the color blue, then I can see where it doesn't meet the challenge, but a lot of the challenges can be taken more than one way. It takes a lot of the fun out of the whole thing if you've worked really hard on a shot that you think meets the challenge perfectly, and then it gets hit hard because other people don't feel it matches what they thought the challenge meant. |

So we should all adjust out way of thinking to foster higher scores so no one's feelings get hurt?
Playing devil's advocate: the people who are unhappy with their scores, or how their photos were interpreted, could grow a thicker skin and shrug it off. If you have to get a high score to have fun, that's a personal problem.
My entry right now in Gold is a bit different, and has some flaws. As a result, it's not doing so hot. I'm still having fun, and I sure as heck don't want anyone altering their interpretation to accomdate me. I entered the shot, I took the risk.

touchy subject. i agree however because i have received a few comments like this recently. there isn't much that can be done about it however, it is just a matter of some people thinking outside of the box and others who can not. it probably will never help my score but i would rather think outside the box and be different rather than follow suit and be 1 of 8 photos with the same subject or basic idea.
in fact the first thing I check for when voting starts is to see if anyone else had the same idea as me.

I don't understand these threads... Why can't we just let everyone vote the way they want? |

I didn't mean that as an affront to you personally, nor did I mean "you" in any sense other than the general "everybody". This very thread highlights the same conflict which you posted about; you the interpretation of challenges as an issue that needs address, and I don't.
People are going to disagree on interpretations, same as everything else. I guess my overall point is, it's not possible to change that, so maybe it's easier to just shrug it off and keep going forward.
The number of threads lately discussing this (and related) issues seems to have grown. If everyone spent more time taking pictures (or at the lake), we all might be happier. :-)

That would certainly be the easiest, and most un-inflamitory, solution.

Folk have been merrily discussing this in this thread for a while.
