Had a light show tonight and since I had yet to shoot lightning, tonight was the night!

Used bulb setting @ f/6.3. It was hit and miss but easier than I thought.

Those are sweet. Great color and clarity. Did you NI any of them or was that noise reduction done in camera or both?

Very nice - I love the rich dark blue night.

Thanks and both. I used my trial of NX and then used a little NI in photoshop. But the RAW files look pretty good. Used my 12-24 at 24mm for the first 2 and 12mm for the third. I got about 20 good shots.

The lightning was real close and being by tripod was freaking me out!

:-P

How long were on the bulb? And did you try leaving it open for more the one lightning strike or is that the third pic?

I was wrong about all being f/6.3 I did goof around a bit ... I think you are right about the last one.

1) 1.90sec f/6.3
2) 1.80sec f/9
3) 3.40sec f/9

I was just trying to time when I thought the strike was coming.

Wonderful shots. I have been doing some experimenting lately. I've been trying w/o a tripod. See this thread and you might have some fun too. Van Thread

Those are wonderful shots. I've tried a 30 second exposure and it worked well, but the bulb setting is great to. Nice clarity on those shots!

Wonderful! I'm green with envy.

Hey Waz - terrific lighting shots... I was tucked away asleep, but I don't think the lighting on our side of town was striking quite like that.

Are you using a remote for those? I have yet to capture lighting shots like that. You da bomb! :-)

Nice! That was REALLY close! I love lightning shots. I shot some the other night, but they were about 15 miles away or so, so they were nowhere near as nice as yours.

Bulb is when you can open the shutter for an indefinite amount of time and then close it again when you choose. Im not sure about your particular model, but on many Canons, you have to have it set to manual control and then adjust the shutter speed to its longest setting, which is bulb. If you have a remote switch, you can lock the button down, and the shutter will remain open until you release it.

Suh-weet! I like them all, but the last one is my fav of the bunch as it's nice to have some reference on the ground.

Thanks. That rings a bell. The XT does have the capability.

WOW thanks everyone! It was a neat storm for sure. It was nice to only have to go to the front door to get these shots!
