Yeah, I know it's the middle of July and is 90+ everywhere in North America but lo and behold we have a ski jumping comp here in Calgary. No, there isn't any snow!
:D
Anyways, anyone have any experience/suggestions on where to be and such to get decent shots?
TIA...

Prime spot was right about where they were landing - I was lucky, I was in that spot :) I was about 1/2 down the hill.
Edit - can't forget this guy
Tips:
1) Go watch them warm up and see about where they'll land.
2) Go stand about that height on the hill, closer to the landing zone the better.
3) Watch practices from that point to see where they're going to be coming from when they're in the air --- you probably won't be able to see them until they're in the air and coming your way.
4) Focus on where they come over the hill, they don't deviate much unless something is very wrong.
5) They're going fricking fast, use a fast shutter.
Watch their skis in the air, if they're crossed and they're coming down bad things are going to happen - try to determine where they're going to hit (not land) and you can get some good tumbles.
The actual flights are far more interesting though (imo). With a good lens you can see the expression on their faces.

You never know in Calgary. It might snow during the competition. |

Thanks alot alfresco. That's definitely a plan. I may also find a spot I can get them coming off the jump too.
And yeah, it's Calgary, you never know.
