Well I did a lil model shot today and here are a few of the once I liked best! She's only 14 and not the easyest model to work with, not the traditionally cute girl but she's fun to work with and try's new things, plus she really wants to model so that's a plus!
Anyways I'm no pro so they'r far from perfect but I'd love some comments and ideas on how to improve myself!

Make her skinner? Not sure if I agree with that unless that's what the client required or something. The images look pretty good as posted. Maybe the backgrounds on some of them could be better, the first and last one but nothing I would call bad.

That's the first thing I thought of when I saw his comment... In fact I thought it was quite rude. I like the third from the top the best! Keep it up! |

I second that. They would all benefit from having a slightly more blurred background however. |

maybe he was just looking at the first shot, the shirt isn't very flattering-- but it's obvious she's skinny!! :) that's my favorite pose, though... just wish she was wearing the other shirt.
i think they look really good... it's always good to support a young girl with a dream, especially that age. |

The biggest thing that I feel is that the she is trying too hard to pose. She needs to loosen up a bit :) I think that alone, would be the biggest improvement.

Here is my edit of one of them. I just blurred the skin and used the healing brush a little bit.
edit: spelling

Hmmmm. Ok, here are my impressions - and please understand, you asked for critique and I am offering that.
First the title of the thread "Model Shot" (headline on your local news), instead of "Model Shoot" (something photographers do) made me think "kid" before I ever saw the images. Then the numerous typos and gramatical errors in the text convinced me that whoever posted the thread was very young. You are not that young, and are presenting yourself as a serious shooter photographing a "model" instead of "hey I took some pics of this hot chick". So that biases my critique immediately. If you want a serious critique....
Did you not see that hanger strap under her arm? That's what stores use to hang garments for retail, they should be cut off or tucked in! A serious photographer needs to pay attention to every detail. That ruins the shot straight off.
The others are nice technically, but none of them show any of the girl's personality, the poses are stiff and static. Its not the "model" who needs to bring life to a portrait, its the photographer. You must interact with her in a way that brings out her natural expressions and place her in poses that look like she could have fallen into them naturally - not awkward. Processing, as mentioned before would help bring out the best in what you have captured. Cloning, healing brush, gaussian blur are the portrait photographers' best friends.
Now - If you just wanted a "hey I took some pictures of a hot chick" comment... Nice shots!
PS - I know I will get slammed for having given such an honest critique. Too many around here prefer the "nice shot" approach. I really hope you take my comments constructively in the good spirit in which they were intended. If you really want to improve your work, you have to be open to every point of view.

So fat people can't model?:P I would never photoshop someone to make them look skinnier, and that girl is TINY you could probly count her ribs! However I get your point about the first pic, she just has a pretty small...chest so it looks like the belly is bigger, I just love the face and pose in that one! :)
I do like the redness in the hair in your edit cfischl but other than that I don't prefer that edition (eyes a bit over the top and stuff)
I have to edit them some more, thanks for the background tips, I will blurr them more! I know she over poses a bit but she's getting better :) Trying a bit to hard at times but hey, better then not trying at all :):) |

DogAngel- You do have some EXCELLENT pics in your portfolio. IMO, this shoot doesn't compare to them. Just being honest :)

DogAngel's profile indicates Iceland as her country of origin. I suspect a possible language barrier.... |

Pfff I didn't want the nice shot comment! :) However the spelling and reprecenting might have alot to do with english not beeing my native language...And hey kid or not, the pictures are the same, you shouldn't get different critique on a photo because of your nationality or age!
However I'm not a serious photographer and photoshop is not my strongest element but I do agree that these are not my best, BUT that is what she looks like pretty relaxed! We were laughing and smiling through out the shoot and I know her pretty well, she wasn't self cautios at all, over posing yes but I probably could have comunicated with her better somehow! Thanks for the comment, it's the once that slap you in the face that make you want to do better right? :) |

My mentor was never anything but honest with me, I've learned its the best way to be when you spot someone with a good eye, drive and ambition. Otherwise they sit around in a "nice shot" world thinking they're ansel adams and they never improve. Atleast that's what I was told. thanks so much for taking my comments constructively.

I was never told that but that's my philosophy on life! You can't help without being real... |
