I didn't right-click. I displayed the pic on the screen, setup my tripod and took a picture with my camera, downloaded it, edited out some glare, printed a few copies out and sold them to my neighbors, then watermarked and uploaded.
:P - - - - just funnin' - fwiw, I am opposed to both right-click-disabling and watermarking, but who cares what I think anyway.
Have fun, play nice. |

Oh well the right click doesn't work anyway. But I'm keeping the site.

What I'm saying is that if you think you can put an image on the Internet, and nobody can do anything with it because you've disabled the right-click function, or have implemented some other kind of protection, you're fooling yourself.

Hang on there....my work is important and I'd like to make some money from it. So don't I have the right to protect my investment? It seems that people are getting awfully upset at something they really shouldn't be doing in the first place. Isn't stealing a crime?

:) Hope you don't think I was makin fun of you. ...well I guess I was making fun, but just for the fun of it. I understand your (and others) concerns, but I agree with alanfreed, if it is that critical that it is not stolen, don't post it on the internet. I think people make much more of the issue that it really is.
The only cases I have seen (not claiming to have seen them all or even a lot), are people posting them as their own on other photo sites to make themselves look good, which is pathetic and pointless, but I doubt anyone's making money off other people's photos, IMO. I could be wrong and I am sure someone will show me one example or two, to which I would point to the total amount of unprotected, professional or desirable images and ask what is the statistical percentage of images being stolen and sold.
I don't have anything at stake like some who rely on their images to make a living, so take my comments for what their worth and feel free to steal any of my images. :) |

Keep your web images small in size, so they won't be as usable. a 400 x X image isn't much use to most people. You can put a semi-transparent water-mark in the center of the image to also hinder it's usefulness.
The thing is nothing is going to stop people from stealing your images off the net. Your real hope is to make them as unusable as possible.

Because your right-click menu isn't the same as my right click-menu, and I actually use my right-click to ease my web surfing experience...
MY Right-Click:
Notice Linky which is a Mozilla extension that allows me to open as many links as I want in new tabs or new windows (I prefer tabs). Then I use -, -, - to navigate through different tabs and close the ones I'm done with. It eases my Carpel Tunnel and Tendonitis. Take that away from me and you lose me from your site. |

One thing you may want to do is put a clear copyright on your site. Yes the "Gayle Cummins Photography © 2006" is very visible but not clear as to what it is for. In the world of the Web you have Content, Media and the software package that runs the whole thing.
If you you are doing the Content and the Photos a statement along the lines of "All Content and Photographs are Copyright Gayle Cummins Photography. No part of this site shall be reproduced without the written consent of the author"
Just a thought...It don't keep 'em from doing bad things but will cover you after the fact.

Yep, I'm an IE user and still using IE v6. Thus the variance in right-click choices as so aptly pointed out (robs, _eug, and myself). After seeing the options you have I may take a peek at the other browser options (I'm trying IE v7 first tho).
IE still rules the roost statistically speaking but has been losing a little ground the past year or two. Always a consideration (user base) when looking at website options.

No not in the same league, the IE vs. FF is serious unlike the Canon vs. Nikon thing :-))
If you do try out FF, once you install go and add some of the top extensions and see how it help the browsing. IMO they did a poor job at highlighting some of the extensions (some should be in the default install). Always a good day to get somebody to look outside IE :-). |

It's a shame I know, but the mouse is NOT my best friend (Carpal Tunnel and all)... I never really caught on to gestures. |

Haha...didn't even think about that. (I don't generally have a need to download a page full of 400x300 photos, though. )I guess we can just add to that to the list of reasons that disabling right click is totally futile.

I only use gestures for 'Back' and 'New Tab' (drag up on a link) and find those 2 alone really really useful.

Add Close Tab to that for me. Those 3 gestures make life much simpler. |
