The only thing I've seen similar to that was a bunch of black birds flying round and round (think tornado!) an old house in town. No birds in the trees, just flying round and round the roof of the old house. They did it for hours and then left.

Watching them flock makes me miss seeing the birds black out the sky in huge flocks like they did when I was kid. There just aren't that many birds here anymore. :(

Yeah, I know what you mean David...

We were out the other day and saw this big flock of birds just flying in this figure 8 over and over again around some trees and a little building in this parking lot. Dave told me it reminded him of this video he'd seen that I had to watch... so he found it and I just thought it was crazy enough that you guys would appreciate it

Weird the things you see

I was totally confused, knowing you have knowlege in this field, until I did some searching. To ME a red cedar is totally different, Thuja plicata (western red cedar), and has cones rather than berries.
I thought gin was made of juniper berries.
Then I found that "your" red cedar, Juniperus virginiana, is known as "western red cedar" and IS a juniper, with berries. NOW it all makes perfect sense! :D

Just shows the hazards of using common names, which are usually localised and vary greatly :)

I forgot the pacific NW has a "red Cedar" which you are correct has small cones. The eastern cedar also is the one that the wood smells so good and keeps the moths out. Van
