Sorry about your kitty! As many people have posted, it's pretty common for cats to dissappear and return much later.

I posted this in another thread and it applies here, as well:

"Not to give you false hope; but I heard an expert on lost pets mention that when indoor cats get outside they often go silent and will hide very nearby for weeks without making a sound. Have you been leaving food and water near possible hiding places? Sometimes they do come back. Sorry for everyones' lost pets. I lost one particular cat that I mourned for years:("

I'm wishing for your kitty to find his way home. I would be devastated if either of mine disappeared and I don't even live with them anymore! (they are helping my parents now). I remember a couple of times when they were young and got outside for two minutes and I was in a panic so I can't imagine what you must feel like. They've been housecats only, which is what it seems you said about Elmo? I bet he is nearby in a garage or under a porch just disoriented. Keep calling for him and we'll keep hoping for you.

I'm such a pussy (pun intended ;-))

this night at 4 o'clock I woke up because my hubby was standing outside. he said Elmo got back, but Bowser was pissed and scared him away (territory defense?)
couple of minutes later he got back again, and hubby caught him. He's allright (thank god!) no scratches or anything.
Bowser is still pissed, growls like a dog to Elmo, but that's gonna be ok.

Glad he's back, and thanks guys for your kind responds. Almost got crazy, and I'm glad I could get it off my chest here :)

Great news that you got him back.

Smell is a very important to cats, and Elmo probably has some unfamiliar scents on himself at the moment, which might be what's freaking Bowser out.

However, I *wouldn't* recommend a bath.... ;)

Maybe in a couple of months you'll open your door to find a nice she-cat and many babies ...

Glad to know Elmo is back home !

Yay!

Once things get settled down I HIGHLY reccomend getting Elmo chipped. This process involves a vet/shelter placing a small microchip between the shoulderblades. My guys are dominantly indoor cats. I have them both chipped so if something happens the odds of them being brought back increase.

I'm go pleased that Elmo is home! Headbutts and purrs from the crew.

That's wonderful, I'm really glad he made it back to you. Maybe now that he's had a taste of adventure, he'll stay home now!

On my way to work this morning, I had a funny feeling I was going to read that Elmo came back.
Strange world - some weirdo in California, thinking about someone's cat making it home in the Netherlands.

Lovely news, Hanneke! I have been watching this from afar. And Brad, that IS weird isn't it? A global linking of cat-obsessed minds via an internet photography site...

Really happy for your news! Made me sad to read about it. I wonder where he's been? Wouldn't it be nice if he could talk...

Happy for you!

Edit: Sad to read he was gone, not that he is home! :D
