A friend of mine asked me my opinion about buying a P&S. It's actually going to be a birthday present for a 17 year old girl bought by her parents. While he didnt give me a price, I'd think nothing outrageous. I don't have much P&S knowledge, so I posted here for some advice....

i personally have had 2 hp's. one on the somewhat expensive side [350] & one on the cheaper side [120]. Both gave excellant clear photos. i also once had some other brand. i didnt like that one too much. but yeah, so hp's are a good choice i personally think.

Any idea what she'll be using it for? Fun with friends? Day time / night time adventures? Is she interested in "art" photography or snapshots?
Does she have a computer? What kind? Is she tech savy?
I understand you may not hav the answer to all these questions, but any more info would be helpful - there's a lot of excellent choices depending on how she'll use it. |

Sorry, what you said is what I usually ask other people to post. So about time I follow my own advise eh?
All these are assumptions....but I have a pretty good idea about her.
1. Most likely fun with friends...nothing 'serious'. But, I'll make sure later.
2. Some day and or night....as well as indoor/outdoor.
3. Snapshots mostly.
4. Yes, she has a computer and is comuter 'savy'.
I guess just an all-around decent camera that takes pretty good photos.
Edited to add: She gave my friend 2 options...1 under Under $350 and the other $450. So, I guess money isn't TO important. Are either of those any good? I'm thinking for that amount, she can get something a little better?

| I am like the brokechic, I used to have an HP, an HP945. It was an ok camera to learn on. If she wants more later, she can get more. I wouldnt give a kid, when he/she is learning to drive, somthing like an Escalade. They can learn to drive in a pinto, and if they want to go farther than a friends house, or a Circle K, they can get a car that will go farther, later on. In analogy form. |
