please oh please have Ai & Ais support like the D200. Mirror lock-up would be nice also.

Fingers crossed.

Interesting. I wonder if they're competing with Sony's new DSLR.

Yes, hopefully Nikon has learned not to lock out use of some of their fine old glass. It's kinda funny that AI & AIS lenses are quite usable on Canon bodies. I've used them with my 10D in the past.

From the looks of it it is probably some sort of updated D200.

More like a downgraded D200 with less features than a D200 and at a lower price point...A D70/D70s replacement.

That is why I bought into the Olympus system, as the 4/3rds cameras are better able to take advantage of my older Nikon glass than my Nikons.

Man I hope so. That would mean a rush of used D70's on the market. Excellent! Wonder if the price point will be even close to a grand... Even better!

You're probably right, an upgrade from the D70/s would be most likely. It makes sense in trying to steal some of the thunder away from Canons 30D.

Guess I might be selling my D70 and getting a new back up. Now if I can only talk my wife into it.

There has been a rumor circulating on the web that Nikon is producing a full frame sensor. No way it could be this camera, right?

Maybe this will help bring the price of the Canon 5D down to be more in-line with the D200 or this one

Highly doubt it. I do think that Nikon *has* to have a 35mm format offering at some point, but I expect it will make it's appearance at the high end of the line first.
This new introduction almost certainly will be along the lines of a D70s update.
It will also be very interesting to see what Canon does this Fall.

This may make Pentax finally announce more details on their 10 megapixel camera.

That page with the lightning and the countdown is pretty dramatic for an updated D70 replacement or downgraded D200.

Nikon certianly has always made it's older glass more easily usable than anyone else.

I hope so. I would love to have the 5D in time for October, when I am off to China for a couple of weeks.

"Integrated quality and affordability to meet the demands of the passionate photo "enthusiasts"

With "affordability" and "enthusiasts" (not pro) in their last statement it has to be in the D70, D200 range. A D70 replacement would make most sense time wise - my guess is it's a toned down version of the D200. Much like how the D50 is to the D70 now.

The thing that gets me though is it says "addition to the lineup" - so it may be a different beast altogether and not be a "replacement" for anything.

As far as Full Frame sensors go, Nikon has been pretty adamant about not ever going to "full frame" - saying they see no need. If they were to go full frame they would be ruling out a large portion of the new lenses they are making and that would be a bad move.
