How do it take infared photos with my NikonD50? |

go buy an infrared filter. I use a hoys R72 for both my D70 and D200.

Just slap on a hoya r72 infrared filter.
Take a manual white balance reading off grass or sky (with ir filter on).
Place camera on tripod and shoooooooooooooot.

Infrared images are produced by light in the wavelength range above that of visible light (i.e., above 700 nanometers). Since most of the infrared light is filtered out by your camera, you'll need the filter on your lens to block most of the visible light and pass the infrared rays to your sensor. Be prepared for long exposure times (typically at least a couple of seconds).
White balance controls won't help.
An alternative (a radical one...) is to have your camera modified to take only IR photos. My Canon D60 was modified as described at irdigital.net.
