I'm planning to buy Portable External USB Hard Drive for storing my originals. I currently have 40 GB "Western Digital Passport Portable Hard Drive" but its giving me lots of trouble ("Delayed Write Failure") these days (any idea on if it can be fixed?)

I'm interested in new Portable devise (atleast 60 GB) and I'm not too keen on going for Western Digital again. My budget is around 150$ (Indian Rupees 7500.00...ouch)

Since I reside in India, I will be requesting one of my friends in US to buy it for me and send it across. It would be helpful if you can suggest me the good options (Seagate..?) AND also point me to link (if possible) from where it can be bought (online or store in Denver,CO).

I'm at big risk at the moment with my portable drive giving problems and no CD writer on my laptop. Please suggest.

Try eastgear.com (much closer to you and should ship to you) or hyperdrive.com if I am reading correctly that you are after an image tank that does not need a computer to download from cards.

Not really. I'm just looking at storage device which I can use with my computer using USB port.

I bought this 2.5 inch drive enclosure and a 2.5 inch HD. I've been really happy with it. One of the nice things about it is that it's powered by the USB port so all I need to do is plug it in and go (no pain in the butt power cords).

That's what I'd recommend.

Xclef 500

Portable hard drive enclosure that uses standard 2.5" laptop drives. On top of that, it is also plays MP3s (plus a few other formats including OggVorbis).

Battery powered and portable...
