In searching the web, I found the price range for a 30D body to be $700-$1400. That's a huge range. On Froogle, there are only 2 listed for under $800. One is from "Royalcamera" and the other from "Camera City". That price seems suspicious.
What is reasonable? |

I paid $1300 for just the body about 2 months ago.
Thinking of joining the 30D ranks?

Yes, I'm sneaking thinking about it. ;-)
$1300, huh? I am curious why they are being offered at much less than that although no place that seems reputable... |

You'll find that the "too low to be believed" stores try to sell you back what was supposed to be in the box, among other wonderful tactics.
Edit...
Ratings for Royal camera
I think this is Camera City you are referring to.
I think three times about buying from any e-tailer that has a rating lower than about 7.0; when you have ratings in the sero-point-something range, these are pure scam outfits. Run away very fast.

I am really hoping to pick one up for under $800. Don't burst my bubble here, kirbic. ;-)
I am aware of the practices of trying to add things to your order, etc., but (and this has probably been addressed in the past), if I use a credit card and I end up not getting what I paid for, I will dispute the charge with my credit card company. I've done it before and it has worked out to my advantage.
On the other hand, I certainly don't need the hassles right now. Any other thoughts? Anyone know the cheapest you can get one from a reliable source?
edit: just saw your edit Kirbic - thanks. looking into that....

The chances of you receiving a camera from a store where you paid $600 less than a reputable place like B&H are about as good as you just sending me the $800 and waiting out by your mailbox.* Don't waste your time. If you're looking for that big of a price difference, look for used. FredMiranda.com is a good place for that.

Yikes! They might actually be the same storefront. I am wondering why nobody burns their village or the NY Attorney General doesn't shut them down.
Oh well. Looks like my impulse has subsided anyway. :( Hopefully the price will drop to under $1k soon.
Thanks folks.

THanks Rex. I did see that the other day - maybe that's where this bug got planted in my head. I only want the body though. I suppose I could buy all that stuff and try to part out what I don't want. ...but those things always turn out bad for me.
I better sleep on it. |

| Oh you wanted a manual with that..... and software..... and a camera strap... Answer yes and....Oh, I'm sorry they are out of stock and will be slightly higher. A gift horse can sometimes have sharp hooves :-)), just buy from B&H or Androma or Buydig or FM B&S or somewhere else that has a decent rating. |

Nah. Just order it. You will love it. I guarantee it. Worth every penny to get it from a reputable dealer with a proven track record, too. |

I was stupid and didn't buy from the factory because I wanted it a month earlier... I paid around 1280. I could have gotten it for around 1150 from the factory with the employee discount...
That's probably pretty close to the bottom limit on price that you will find anywhere for the body only for a good while.
If I wanted to get it from the factory, it would have cost me around an extra 40 bucks US on train fair and a bit more for bus/taxi and it probably would have taken an entire day.
Bleh. Either way, I made sure that I spent the full amount and did not buy the grey market one.
I will be moving a lot closer to the factory in a month or so and around that time will probably pick up a 50mm f/1.4 from them.

| Outside of the now-expired deal at Dell, the best price I know of (with a reasonable certainty of actually getting the camera) is $1250 at NewEgg with a free 1Gb 80X CF card. You can get one for a little less at ibuydigital, but they're less reliable and generally charge much more for shipping. |
