For the past month, I have been researching and looking at as many images which look good as "Black & White".
I decided to browse many black & white images as I could, re DPC members portfolios, also challenges, DPC prints, and even added some as favorites.
I have been playing around with some of my own images, and converted them to "Black & White", and added a new folder to my portfolio for them.
Here are some examples for you to see.
If you comment on any of them, I will return a "comment for comment", as usual.

 Thank you.....

Isn't is great how something as colourful as a flower can look so striking in B&W!
Nice job Sherpet! |

You have done a beautiful job on converting to BW. The tones are great with the full range from complete black to complete white. I am so impressed with the quality of your work. It took me months to get even close to a decent quality of conversion. You've got it going.
Needless to say, you've chosen images that work well in BW. I did notice that in the 2 birds, you lost detail in the white feathers as you pushed the white, which is a minor issue for the quality of the body of work.
Impressive.

Left a handful of comments but not needing comments back. I just like looking at your stuff. In general the black and whites look good but in many they just dont stand up against the color versions. The processing to get b&w was done well and all, but outside of the agaves the others were stronger in color. (Not saying that the b&w agaves are stronger than the originals but they stand up better). But this is also from a perspective of having seen the color originals so I am making a comparison. Tough to look at these from new eyes and not think about the first ones as I have seen and enjoyed them all many times.

I understand where you are coming from Tim, as I had the same problem when converting them to black & white. I kept comparing them to the origionals. It has been a very interesting learning curve for me, and one I enjoyed very much.
I think when you do something new and completely differant, it amazes me with the complete differance one has to view what one is doing to get the results one wants to achieve.
For my first effort ever in black & white photography, I have enjoyed the experience, learned a lot in such a shoty time, and look forward to doing some more. Thanks everyone for your comments.
ps; When uploading these twelve B/W images into my portfolio, I was surprised that I saw six little camera "logos", alongside the uploads re print quality, so that made me happy.....
