I added this image to my portfolio on May 18th...here at DPC only. This past weekend the model was contacted by mail from picture.com.
They had her name, full mailing address, and her hotmail address!
She said that she didn't contact them & I know I didn't. From the details on this image, the only thing they could have known was her first name. All of this was in regard to a coffee table book.

I know I've read nothing good about these guys in the forums here. How could they have gotten so much information?

Did they actually reference this specific photo? I suspect the email is completely unrelated to your portfolio shot and they got her info somewhere else on the net or from something she signed up for.

From your pic, I don't know how they could even have been sure which name went with the lady, and which with the dog. I suspect that mk is right and they got the info elsewhere.

This photo was printed on one of the flyer pages, very professional looking.

Did she have a copy of the photo? could she have shared it with someone, whereas it took on a life of its own?

If you never posted it anywhere with her email address, etc., then the data never existed on dpc in the first place.

They titled the photo "Ellie & I" & had the copyright by her first & last name.

So they printed it without your permission?

That's what I don't understand. How could they have tracked her down with so little information to go on. It would have been MUCH easier to contact me.

Do you know if she uploaded a copy of the pic to something like myspace? If so she could have set herself up.

Yes. They were contacting her for authorization to put in in this "book" & apperently to sell her a copy.

I asked her about that and she says absolutely not. That's why were both concerned.

Did you give her a copy of this? Has this been printed anywhere?

Where did she have it printed?

I have a photo printer. As far as I'm aware she didn't have any more copies. But I will ask.

It sounds like she ordered a print and gave them her personal information.
07/17/2006 12:54:26 PM · #17
Let's see.
YOU took the picture, THEY changed the copyright to HER name, yet neither of you sent it in, nor gave permission to change the title & copyright.
Something smells very very foul here.
Is there an off-chance that maybe a friend, relative, Mom maybe, tried to surprise her and uploaded a copy to them and it backfired?
If not, SOMEONE at picture.com is seriously breaking the law.

Try a Google Images search with her full name, in quotations if necessary, and see if it brings up anything. I tried Shannon & Ellie and got nothing related but you might have better luck with the full name.

That sounds to me like she uploaded it somewhere and maybe just forgot. It seems odd that picture.com would change the title to make it her photo if they found it under your account. I'm putting my money on her being some part of this.

In any case, the answer to how could they get all that info just from a photo you uploaded to DPC is they can't.

Shannon here, the model: I did e-mail the picture to two people, but they do not have my personal address, nor my personal hotmail address. One is a co worker and the other a customer. They would not know any person info.

We have already tried this, and got nothing.

Shannon: I did not upload any of the photos taken. This is the only site with this picture, as far as we are aware of.

Various bits of info are availble on the web, for example if you have a .com or similar domain then your name and address is publically available for all to see. So if a photo were uploaded on a personal website or similar the details could be gotten from there. Otherwise I couldn't be sure, but in any event the fact that they've tracked down a model doesn't give them the right to use the picture. I hope they realise that.

I agree. Neither of us understand how they could have gotten so much info with so little to begin with. I was hoping someone here may be keen on how to do something like this. It kind of scary.

I've seen at least one other portfolio of yours that has this photo (although perhaps the editing is slightly different?)
