I am free-lance designer and I use my photography in most of my jobs and my clients love it. I have a client who uses me for ALL of her advertising, posters, flyers, brochures...and recently she asked me to take some promotional photos at an event.
Here's my dilemma:
I just have NO idea what to charge her for taking her photos at the event! I spent about 2 hours there and took about 175 photos. She wants the photos on a disc too.
Thanks for any response!!

We know nothing about what kind of business she runs...what kind of quality shots you are creating...how she is going to use the photos...what *your* time is worth...etc...
There is no set answer to such a broad question. Maybe if you narrowed it down some, someone will have some type of figure for you.

Well, you have to factor in a lot of things. Price per shooting, price for post-processing are two of the most prominent. For work that I can shoot with ease and have a minimal of processing, I charge between $2-$4 per photo.
By minimal processing, I'm talking about batch processing mostly.

Just out of curiosity, why didn't you set your prices, etc. and have both parties agree to it beforehand? It seems kind of odd to set the price after the fact. Again, I'm just wondering, not criticizing you or anything.

I'm sorry that I didn't make myself clearer. She is one of my best clients for graphic design and just asked me
to do this as a favor because she didn't have the time. (Before I came on board to do her graphics, she usually used snapshots (dare I say that?) and since I had taken a number of shots for advertising purposes, she wanted me to take the photos.)
I had never been on an actual shoot before of just walking around and taking candid shots more or less with a couple ending up as potentials for brochures or magazines.
Anyway, I guess more specifically, I needed advice on what to charge for a basic photoshoot of candids.
thanks for all of your comments.
I really do appreciate it.

well most wedding photogs have a base fee and then an extra per hour fee of between $75 to $150 per hour. You need to keep her happy so I suggest an offer of somewhere in that ball park. Better still, if she is consistantly send you good paying business maybe this is the time to offer a favor to her. |
