I'm probably over my head here as I have never matted or framed any of my prints. But from viewing images on the internet I am beginning to feel that the color surrounding an image makes a very big difference in how it strikes a viewer. Compare similar images at dpc where the surrounding space is a very light gray color with shots at DailyAwards.com where the surrounding color is a fairly dark blue, of at pbase where people often use black. I don't understand this effect, especially as to which color is best for which type of prints, but I think it is a reason to use matting, and which color mat to use. I need to learn more about this.

Hmm, ok - so it looks like matting is the way to go. Now, since I haven't matted photos before, what's the best way to choose your color of mat so as to enhance and not distract?

OK, to take it a step further. Double mat? or single?

I've always done double mat, but I'm not even sure why.
