I think I'm gonna pull the trigger on a new flashgun(pun intended). I was looking at the SB-600 and then I realized I wasn't being my usual cheap, nitpicking self, so I looked around.
And now I want a Sigma EF-500 DG Super. Sigma has given it D200 support, it has iTTL and SB-800 functionality, and its only twenty dollars more than the cheapest SB-600 I could find. The sad part is that I went researching to save money versus an SB-600 and now I'll be spending more. *Sigh*
If I ever do branch out with more flashguns it acts like an SB-800 and even interoperates (according to my research) with the SB series. Any reason why not to get it?

It will only go commander mode with the D70 and I don't think it strobes. I got the SB-600 and I wish I would have purchased the SB-800.

I like my 600, i'll probably get the 800 at some point to supplement
things

Hit the spec sheet link on This Page from Sigma and you'll see that it has the same iTTL and wireless functionality of the SB-800. It's only downside is that unlike the SB-800 it can't guess the exposure by itself, something I would use rarely.
It can operate fully seperate from the camera as a slave, and as mentioned earlier, as a master in the same way (and with) an SB-800.
It's either this or the SB-600. Anyone have experience with Sigma or have a reason to choose the SB-600 over this? |

Hum ok well I downloaded the PDF manual and it said it would only work off the camera with the D70 Page 23

I'm sorry, I should have posted a link to This as well. It outlines full feature support for the D200.
Sigma announced that they were adding D200 support a while back and even pay shipping both ways for owners of a non-compatable EF-500 to have the firmware upgraded. I made sure compatability was possible before I considered it for purchase.
Sigma is notorious for having very crappy and un-updated manuals, but luckily many forums have tutorials on how to utilize the features.
