Since I'm in the mood for food or sex..., no Food, Food for Thought.

Okay Ursula and others.
1) Write a few lines starting with "Food is... ... such-n-such", "to-so-n-so".
2) Then make an abstract image of that idea, using food items.
3) Think of past Challenges, you may have missed out on, now you can redo them, only using "Abstract-Food".

You know, Shadows, Single-Light, Indulgence, Progress, Something New, Green, Desolated-Food, or maybe An Empty-Room, with a piece of food in the corner in the mousetrap.

Actually, first on the list, but the BOTTOM or foundation of the pyramid:

Maslow's original hierarchy of needs.
1. Biological and Physiological needs - air, food, drink, shelter, warmth, sex, sleep, etc.
2. Safety needs - protection from elements, security, order, law, limits, stability, etc.
3. Belongingness and Love needs - work group, family, affection, relationships, etc.
4. Esteem needs - self-esteem, achievement, mastery, independence, status, dominance, prestige, managerial responsibility, etc.
5. Self-Actualisation needs - realising personal potential, self-fulfillment, seeking personal growth and peak experiences.

As for my Food Abstract, I hope I got the right shot, because it tasted REALLY good.

Food is a bowl of blueberries with a spoonful of honey and a bit of plain heavy cream.

Food is fresh baked bread with butter and honey.

Food is pizza with homemade sauce, and mushrooms, peppers, red onions, feta cheese, and a mug of dark beer.

Hmmm. Sounds like a menu for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I'm getting hungry! :)

I don't think I want to go to point 2, I just want to eat point 1.

---------------------

BTW, off topic, but, have you guys ever tried Salmon Chowder? I had some a couple weeks ago and it was just delicious!

Yes, this is a tough one, many will eat (have eaten) their props before a possible retake. Mine, I cut out the paper and cut out a foam board and put it in the fridge, for later. Oops, I forgot to put a sign on it, "Do not eat, has been exposed to digital radiation".

A hint of ideas, a dash of Light, an voila...

Salmon Chowder sounds good, do you make it? Where can I get it? I love Beer cheese soup (without the beer cans), and Lobster Bisque or Crab Bisque soup, even Abstract-Food Soup-Du-Jour (minus the camera parts).

No, I didn't make it, but I want to learn how it's made. Got it at a little restaurant in Nelson, BC, ("The Outer Clove") that specializes in all things garlic.

Y'all are gonna make me go to an actual grocery store and buy stuff, aren't you? I haven't a clue what I want to shoot, but I feel oddly compelled to try to come up with something....

Whew! Luckily I did find "the" shot in my last attempt and I'm really quite pleased with it.

I can't wait for voting to start and see whether others like it as much as I do.

Sadly, this is a bye week challenge for The F/Stops Here! team so my sheer abstract foodilicious brilliance will be of no help to us.

Unless of course the voters think its cruddy in which case we'll have dodged a bullet. ;)

I haven't been this excited about an entry in awhile though. Hurry up midnight!

Ugh! I'm in! Can't believe the mess I made of my kitchen to do this shot. Waaaaaaaaaaay too many ideas that didn't work out, but I think I finally hit on a DPC-able image. Good luck lil picture!

Urgh!! I hate it. I got hurt in my toe few hours ago. Now I can't even walk. I still have to take the perfect food shot and I think I can't. It's too much work for my hurt toe. I will just have to find something for the lines challenge.

I actually did go to the grocery and buy stuff. Then tried some things this morning. And oddly enough, I really rather like it. Which, based on past experience, means I'll get about a 5.2 score-wise. :-)

With luck, though, at least a couple of folks out there in DPC-land will like it, too.

I think I may be in, not sure if I'll keep it in. Making an abstract out of food is a really weird concept. Abstract food by itself is even weirder.

Oh well. I'm really curious what people will come up with for this one. I mean, "beach" and "lines" I can imagine all sort of stuff that people will show, but "abstract food"?

Hope your toe gets better :)

I'm so with ya there, Ursula! I'm dying to see how others interpret this one -- and how they interpret my shot.

Didn't intend to enter, but after looking through the fridge and cupboards, I came across something that I found interesting. Will see what comes of it and I may have an entry afterall...

I just browsed the produce section for anything that looked like it would be interesting to shoot - good color, good textures, etc. Then there was much photoshoppage. I'm in, but I'm hoping that it's not too abstract.
07/16/2006 03:34:00 PM · #69
I'm in and everything worked out just how I planned. For once. I'm going to play it safe and enter one that (hopefully) isn't too abstract. I have an outtake that is really cool but I think it's a bit too much for DPC; I would certainly get comments that you can't tell it's food and would get voted down.

I've got one idea, hopefully i'll remember to do it tonight :-)
07/16/2006 04:33:17 PM · #71
Well I have my entry in. I wasn't even planning to enter this challenge for the same difficulty reasons everyone else has mentioned, but while coming up with ideas for Lines II something came together and I really liked it. We'll see if anyone else does. =o It is abstract for sure, now to get hammered on the food side of the topic.
07/16/2006 04:37:14 PM · #72
If it's going to be abstract... how would you tell it is food... or something else?

:P
07/16/2006 04:38:01 PM · #73
Well, I was planning to enter, but now after reading this thread I am really confused;) I will probably sit this one out!

Good luck to all who enter here!

I had my idea, set it up and handheld a shot to check lighting etc, decided to save time and just uploaded my test shot :)Not too abstract and looking for a 5.6020+
07/16/2006 05:27:07 PM · #75
My original idea shot great - as a macro but not really an abstract at all. My submitted shot is easily an abstract and fits the challenge perfectly but I am a bit bummed to replace my other as I prefer the first as a photo. Lets see how the community treats me. I hope to not regret making the change.
