So today I was fooling around with my wireless network (two computers sharing the DSL router) trying to improve my speed between computers (a pathetic 1.3mbit/sec average despite all connections being 11mbit, even though the task manager reports 20-25% network usage). Well anyway, I was talking to my friend about this and he said that he didn't like wireless networks because when he had one, everytime he put the microwave on, the signal dropped out. So I turned on my microwave, and sure enough, the network drops out. So I did a little research about this and discovered that if you use channels 7,8,9,10, or 11 on a wireless device you're going to get conflict with a microwave. Now get this, the default setting to my router was channel 9, the WORST of any of those channels to have. I changed the router to channel 3 and now I can use my microwave without losing my network 8-)
So if anybody else has been expiriencing dropouts, this is something to check.
Now if only i could improve this throughput issue. lol! |
