I am becoming very frustrated with the IE "click to activate and use this control" problem with ActiveX etc because of Microsofts lawsuit that they received. My web page uses these and you need to click on each individual item to activate the menu buttons, galleries etc. I've have read about workarounds for these but can't seem to get anything to work. I am pretty slack and just used Frontpage to put my site together. I have tried to use this solution here but it says to insert the code after the last tag, but my html doesn't have any? Hence, it doesn't seem to want to work.

I mainly use Firefox now because of this problem with IE, but obviously customers who use IE are going to have this problem so I really want to get my web site working properly. If anyone can help or suggest some things to try please let me know or PM me. I can PM my Messenger details if you want to talk direct!

Cheers!

presumably you want to get rid of these Active X controls, seems strange to use them for simple menu items, are they rollovers or something?

Perhaps if you showed us the site we'd have more to work on!!

Link is in my signature.....and yes, they are rollover menu buttons!

ah right yes, didn't think to look in sig.....

Your best bet is to go into photo shop and create two graphics for each button, the normal graphic, and how you want it to look when you rollover, so rather than using Active x to apply an effect it just switches between the two images giving the same effect without the nasty MS stuff.

Javascript will do the trick for swapping images, try googleing for "Javascript Rollowver" for lots of pages on the subject.

Or try these pages:
//javascript.internet.com/generators/preload-images.html

//homepage.ntlworld.com/kayseycarvey/document3.htmlnull

//www.outfront.net/tutorials_02/adv_tech/rollovers1.htm

I only hope your web design software has a built-in spellchecker

To address the OP - I'd avoid ActiveX where possible. If you're using it for rollover menus, then I'd go with either javascript or flash. There are tons of pre-built javascript and flash menus available.

Great tip! Thanks for that! I will try it out! :)

I believe you can solve the IE flash click problem easily. See my post in this thread.
