What I mean is not only have a 24 or 48 hour submission deadline but speed up the voting process too and have it as long as the submission time, 24 or 48 hours, I think that might be fun. I do realize we would get less votes but in my experience you get about half the amount of total votes in the first day anyway and the score rarely changes that much after that, perhaps up or down by 0.2 or so.

Anyway, just thought this might be fun to try sometime :)

Good idea Lárus! Same with my scores, they stay more or less the same after 1st or 2nd day of voting and then a little boost when the votes from those that have not voted for 20% are taken out. So speedy gonzales all the way could be a nice change.

Speed challenges were originally like this... Can't remember why we changed them though :P

Why?

I think it'd be fun to have some of them be speed-voting, but it'd be nice to leave some with regular voting, too, since we can't all get to them right away.

take it one step farther & have a week of challenges
7 days 7 topics 1 day of voting each
score is average of the week (& must be in all 7 )

Bad idea. Less time to vote would be a serious encouragement for the cheaters to round up all their friends and manipulate the finishes. What we need is to find ways to get more votes, not less.

agree.

I think that to make it more fun... make it voting is the same time as the entry time... PLUS you can't vote if you didn't enter... a DQed photo would mean that your votes would be removed

the challenge should have strict rules and any DNMC should be enforced

Unless you include a provision that you must vote 100% if you enter, and DQ the one's that don't, you might end up with very few votes being cast. More votes is good, fewer votes is not good.

Is this really a problem? No wonder I'm placing so low all of the time! It's the cheaters!

Pulease.

I think it is more of a problem than people realize, but that's just my suspicion. We really have no way of knowing for sure, at least not that I am aware of. But it is definitely possible, and it will continue to fester as long as the general attitude around here is that it does not exist, or that it is so small as to be insignificant.

I can't see why we should be taking cheaters into consideration when we plan new things here on dpc, if they are there, they will cheat, whatever you do. Those low-lives should not be dictating anything but their own miserable voting-habits.
Re. seven challenges in seven days, that might be a bit steep to start out with. How about seven 48 hour challenges and 48 hour voting for participants only and not include them in WPL2, might complicate things for Scott...

I like the idea too.

Maybe start out small, Two challenges tied together with the results released with the average of two separate votes and no votes released until finished.

Perhaps an INclusive challenge. Must enter both... A DQ in one is a DQ in both. AND make them challenges that have DNMC=DQ.

It'd be fairly easy to spot cheaters who helped just one or two photogs if the server passed an
ID number to each voters' browser in order for them to vote. They'd almost always vote the minimum of 20 percent with no or maybe just one comment plus one 10. Also if the software could indicate which photo is voted on first, and how fast the votes are cast, that could supply clues as to who is being helped. It would require long term analysis and probably modifying the site software. So I doubt it will ever happen. I suspect that few cheat. But I also suspect the number is definatly non-zero. This is the internets after all. ;)

Maybe you better ask rikki. He's got tons of ribbons so I'm sure he knows more than I do. ;)

LOL!

Seriously, I think a challenge like this would make sense. Gathering friends prolly happens in Open Challenges. But a Speed cChallenge would only be for members. Right?

FYI, there is a member's only bash at Yanko's today. The cover is votes of 10 only in a soon to be announced challenge. :P

See? If we had taken the "friend vote" approach, I wont have to have that huge loser banner on my profile page right now :p I liked your entry, by the way - just too bad coz I didn't vote on it (actually didn't vote in that challenge) *slapping self* if I had, you could have easily won that lady!
