Personally, I think the Argentian ref was the winner.
Seemed to have a problem focusing his eyes on Italy's "indiscretions".
Come to think of it...
Is it just me, or is the game greatly enhanced by the appearance of all those beautiful white lenses on playing field level?
I have a hard time focusing on the game when the photographers with all of that beautiful glass between them come into the shot.

Have a look at this shot.
It's good fun getting accreditation to sit right on the side line, but somehow this image makes me think that it's time to rethink how we do sports photo-journalism. It just does more for me.

Anyway
Well done Italy.
Now go and sign the ref's check...

that was an awesome game, glad italy won :-)

wow what about that headbutt

everything is nice and good, congrats Italy... etc...

I only wish a miracle, and see football in USA as it is like super bawl one day... or NBA championships, of Baseball games...

but, it's not going to happen...

Football is 90 minutes running game, with no commercials... unfortunately most Americans can't run that long...

it's the painful truth.

:(

Gutted France lost, but even more gutted Zidane did what he did.
He's my favourite player, but what he did deserved a red card basically.
I'm sad for him.

Yeah, Italy! Congratulations to all Italians (and friends) here, especially to Bea (dax-).

Well done!

Where does this come from? The Americans were considered one of the fittest teams in the WC. With just nine players on the pitch, they ran circles around the Italians with ten.

to become a football country, you can't go with 11 people...110 people or 1,100 people... hundreds of thousands of people need to play, fallow and show interest and most of all stay fit (thin)...

reality is, in US, there won't be football as we know it for the rest of the world... for a looooong time.

I'm not sure where you're from originally, but millions of kids -- boys and girls -- play soccer here in the States. I grew up playing soccer in both Miami and Atlanta. Just because millions of Americans are out of shape doesn't mean all 300 million of us are. Again, we had one of the fittest teams in the Cup this year.

The USA has been to five World Cups in a row. Not bad. We're catching up. All we need is a WC-caliber coach and we'll be in the Round of 8 next go round.

football (soccer) is big in the U.S. but sports in general are huge therefore soccer doesn't receive the attention other sports do.
In other parts of the world other sports are poorly attended or not attended at all, while in the U.S. many sports are well attended. The MLS is staying afloat due to fan support.

I wouldn't say we are an out of shape country either, I would just say we are more polarized in our physical shape. Most people in countries all over the world couldn't run 90 min non-stop. We have more fit people, but also more extremely un fit people...with not much in the middle ground...which is where the rest of the world seems to have the majority. I think anyone in my family could run 90 minutes for you if they needed...and we are no exception.

by the way this was such a boring world cup...worst one since I've been born back in '84.

I am from NJ, I came to this country from another European country 16 years ago and I did play football about 6 years where I was...

Now, this aside, what do you suggest to the American people, forget American people, what do you suggest in general to make football (soccer) as one of the major supports in US?

if you have any ideas, I would like to hear them.

maybe, just maybe it has started, last few years, and it would be great if US team would go at leats to quarter finals, but didn't happen.

Too many other sports, and because not much interest in soccer, media doesn't care, no profit... no profit, no interest.

I could argue this with you or other people forever, but I don't have to... I can see. and as far as I can see, if you are not really "in" it, you won't see much more soccer games on TV in US, maybe some, and some in Spanish channels.. but you know what I mean.

:/

THIS WORLD CUP FUCKING KICKED ASS IMOH!!! If you live in Germany, you would not believe what it has done culturally! Good shit! Shame it ended with that unsportsmanlike move by zidane! Not a cool way to end your career! All in all, i think this world cup rocked!
