Does anyone feel inspired to start a thread or make a tutorial on basic lighting? Not portraits - Cindi's covering that very well, but product photography type things. Like lightboxes and low key effects- how to shoot lightbulbs and wine glasses with blue liquid in them and the like, and have them turn out looking all nice and evenly lit. You know, the stuff that makes images win instead of scoring 4.3563 -

well YOUR last pic scored 6.475 so I assume the very sepcific example of 4.3563 is one of yours in the voting phase? lol . I would like a thread about basic lighting as well. I used a light tent for a "product" shot for the first time last night. I think it was nice but not flawless.

Actually, 3 of my 4 shots currently in voting are scoring in the 4's. Sigh. I seem to do ok with available light, but I really need help when it comes to artificial light. I would love to achieve the smooth finish of the lightbulbs in the glass challenge, or karennfld's apple in the single light source challenge.

I'll second this. I've entered 4 challenges so far (2 are in scoring) and every single one has had a comment about how the lighting could be better.

I've done this some, but not really sure I could really give more than my own experience on it.

It'd be fun to learn along as we all tried different techniques though.

I still need to build a light tent...
