As I read hotpasta's picture notes on his great Bokeh third place pic , I noted to myself that he said he took about 250 shots. I've seen elsewhere people talking about the hundreds of pics taken during a weekend or outing.

So I'd be interested to hear people's thoughts on some of the following questions:

do you leave the house with a clear objective in mind? -- OR -- do you have some general ideas and then let scenes come to you?
do you take, say, 200 pics with the expectation that there might be 2-10 "keepers"?

an analogy for golf lovers - many great golfers see (picture in their mind) the shot before approaching the ball. Is something that great photographers should do as well? In other words is there a time for mentally composing the scene/shot, then putting the camera to the eye and snapping.

The 3 challenges this week are great examples of ideas I'm hoping to hear. 10,progress,perspective. All fairly abstract for my creativity challenged brain. do people have a "vision" of what the final product will look like even before they leave the house (or enter the studio)?

Thanks all. Glad I found this great community.
